I went last year and here's some details for the noobs:
by midday (noon-ish) expect there to be about 1-2 miles of stop and go traffice BEFORE the exit off 101S (no other option since the cops have streets closed off.
After exit, expect another stop and go fo another 30 minutes to get to the parking lot.
The parking lot is on a dirt field quite a ways from the entrance.
They have buses that shuttle from lot to entrance (free)
Expect it to be at least 100 degrees (last year, there was an actual line to stand in shade...seriously...don;t expect there to be plenty of places to eat or even stand comfortably...if you're under shade, you;re sharing space like a crowded BART train during rush hour.
Forget any shows or cooking demos (all sold out or over by 2pm)
the food stands are good, but portions are small (for the money).
The best food stands have about 10-20 minute wait line.
I was told things improve vastly if you arrive early, which is what I'm planning.
BAsically, don;t even bother going unless you can get there before 11 am. You'll just feel like herded cattle from start to finish.
