But now my car is running strong with a new tune and even after a few weeks, I get a huge grin every time I WOT. :RockOn - not mine:

If anyone ever needs a ECUTek tune down in So Cal, Ed Dowell is the man.

I'm sure if you asked a tuner in <insert location in United States> and asked them to review a tune from <insert name of your favorite tuner>, they'll all say each others' tune is "junk", and how much better their tune is.

A competent tuner, on the other hand understands that in different environmental factors, such as temperature and humidity, different days, with different gas, your car runs a bit differently. They wouldn't bash the "other" tuner, simply make adjustments and re-tune your car.

I, for one, am very pleased about how Shiv tuned my wife's Forester XT. He asked us what our goals were, what guidelines we were looking to follow, and tuned the car appropriately. We made just shy of 200 WHP, but it's a very reliable tune, and has lasted us ~80k miles so far. I don't care about having the maximum WHP number I can squeeze out of the motor with the mods we have, we want reliability and stability in our tune, which takes into account the different environments we drive our Forester through.

Shiv's driving on the other hand? Umm, no...I don't think I want him driving our Forester again.

I've been tuned by Shigenori. He does a great job, the tune has held up for the last 10k+ miles. He does a road tune first and then does a dyno tune afterward. When he is in town they rent out the the EIP dyno down in SJ. So for 1500 you get the ecutek license, a road tune, and dyno tune (dyno rental time included).

My car is really smooth, pulls nice and hard till the vf-39 runs out of air around 5k, and AFRs are good going from 11.0-11.1 at peak boost to 10.5-10.8 at redline.

I don't remember what Kevin said because $1500 is a little too much for my stage 2 suby, but I think he is coming in September.
Yeah, I've only heard raving reviews, but that is a bit out of my price range as well for what my car is. haha

No, he didn't just say it was junk, he pulled the algorithms and explained it to me. Anything after 5200RPM, I had 0 advanced timing in the tune with a correction value of +/-, I think it was around, 15. Basically, he took the lazy man's way out and said, I don't feel like tuning the rest of the power band, let's let the ECU learn itself. However, he still was able to tune my car to stop knocking, something other Bay Area tuners could not.

I'm glad you're pleased with his tune. So was I, until it started knocking down here and I learned about his tuning procedure on my car.
