Now unless the OP gave consent, they straight up violated his rights. The most a cop can legally do without PC is ask you to step out of the car and pat you down (i.e. Terry Frisk).
If it was me, I'd be on the phone with my lawyer the second after those cops let me go.

notice in the mail is a COURTESY notice/reminder. just cuz you didn't get it doesn't mean you are clear. it is your responsibility to follow up w/in the time frame noted on your citation.
it's kinda like a credit card bill. just cuz you don't receive your monthly statement/bill, it doesn't mean the payment is not due.

even if that is true and that case, if the cops that pulled him over and cuffed him have a history of complaints against them simliar to what happened here... that could work into your favor

Well you should be careful being "sure of things" when you weren't there. Thats the dumbest thing i've ever heard, same type of assumptions that make people a-holes.
It was my 97 2.2 liter beater, automatic subaru. Not modified at all, no bov, no turbo, no driving like an idiot. I saw the cop the whole time and was driving the speed limit exactly. They pulled me over as a last resort as I was turning onto my street. Sorry pal, but they break the law all the time.....whether you want to believe it or not. It was at night, so unfortunately the rules for the cops to follow go out the window

Yeah, I just assumed they threw it out. My fault I guess, and I should have to deal with it, but paying 400 is a joke and highway robbery. I already pay them to send me the ******* form, they didn't have any problems sending this last one to pay the 400.00, and then I gotta pay a bunch because the government worker was to lazy to do their job.
Can I ask what the fix-it ticket was for then? And where is this area in which I should never think of driving my car around for fear of cops?
I'm sure if you go to the courthouse, explain your predicament, and even explain how the car's not even in your possession anymore (I think you said it was totalled and lost) then they should let it slide... Otherwise, your courthouse employees are major dicks

If the fix it ticket was expired registration all you'll have to do is show up with your current paperwork and pay the fix it ticket. Think they're $15 now.
and it does sound like you have a case for illegal search and breach of your rights as an american.

Yeah I agree about the search, but in reality there isn't much I can do. I just hope I can get the court to knock down my ticket. The cop told me i'd get something in the mail, was I suppose to just go down there? Yes it was expired reg.
Dude all you gotta do is show them the receipt that you paid your registration the next day you got your ticket and pay whatever $10 fine that you need to pay. lol.
