GF just got a fix it ticket for something that isn't broken: advice

As the title says...I just got a phone call from my GF who just got a fix it ticket for her taillights being broken. Problem is they aren't actually broken she just did not have her lights on so they weren't on when the cop pulled her over. The cop and her didn't realize that that was the real problem and so the cop wrote her a fix it ticket to get her taillights fixed.

So she calls me and asks, what do I do?

And since I'm not really sure what you would do in this kind of situation I'm asking all of you on what you should do.

Hmmm.... tell her to go get it signed off. If they work, it won't have any problems getting signed off.

just have another cop see the tail light with it on. they sign it off stating that it's been "fixed" and you pay a 10-15 dollar adminstrative (paperwork fee)

voila, done!

true which sucks, but I would much rather pay the 15 than to go through a bunch of hassle and the retelling the story blah blah blah.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Why not just call the station tomorrow, ask to speak with the Cop that pulled her over. Then explain the situation and set up a time to meet and have it signed off by him personally, or torn up and thrown away.

Guess how much the ticket is if they cite you for driving with your lights off. That's a moving violation. She scored, just have her go to CHP, say "Look, my lights work" and have them sign it off. Pay the $10-$15, go about your day

^ yeah really, i hate people that drive with no lights on...its easy for us subaru people to say since they auto turn off, but driving in pouring rain sseing 1/2 the lights off in oncoming traffic is just stupid

Yeah. Get it signed off and pay the $10 or $15. Better than watching your insurance premium go up.

lol yea i know. lol

Not a bad idea about going to the cop station and talking to the cop and have him tear it up or whatev. I think I'll have her do that.

Yea she is really lucky the cop didnt notice that she just was driving without her lights on. Luckily, she was only driving up the street to her friends house and not on the main road or anything where could have been worse.

Just a simple mistake.

Why risk the cop changing the ticket to a moving violation? Safer to just pay the $15 and wash your hands of it.
