I was driving home from school today, doing about 70mph in the left lane of 880 northbound just before the Tennyson exit. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a wheel rolling across the highway and watched in amusement as cars swerved left and right to avoid it. The tire made its way from the right side of the highway to the left side, somehow hopped the barrier and flew into on coming traffic and hit a pickup truck who was in the left lane. The impact sent the wheel flying through the air and into the side of my car. I thought the thing hit the front of my car, so I got out and examined the hood and bumper and was really confused when I didn't see any damage. Then I saw the doors, and I started crying. It hit so hard that my mirror was out of adjustment, and it didn't even touch my mirror.

The wheel was off a riced out Civic hatchback that was being loaded onto a tow truck on the right side of the highway. I have no idea how the thing got into the street. The cop was smart enough to take care of the insurance info and everything for me, otherwise the tow truck driver and Honda owner would be dead. Speaking of dead, I don't want to know what would have happened if it had gone through my window, but I imagine my face would look something like my car door.

Thanks Egan, and everyone else. Charlie, you're right to be paranoid. If I were paranoid, I would have known a wheel was going to fly through the air and hit my car. Stupid wheels.

I watch stuff that's flying at my car... but my car has already caught scrap metal, wood blocks, and tons of rocks hitting my windshield .

It's always the little things that I just run over.

I saw a semi truck tire come off roll by me and jump right over a railing off the side of a freeway overpass in SF. Have no idea what it hit but it was over a pretty busy street.

My brother had one of his wheels come off once. Crazy. He barely had his lisense and he's driving down the road and sees this tires go right by him..he's like..hmm...that looks like my wheeeeeeeeel. Slowly rolled over to the side of the highway.

Nuts..I almost got hit by a 4x8 peace of press board hucked off a freeway overpass like a month ago.

Hopefully they'll fix it right up and you'll never notice it...you should have your mirrors painted while its in there...believe me..it looks hot. oh wait...don't do it. never mind. I like being the only one around. haa.
