I studied constitutional law a bit in college a number of years back (very limited... I might add) and the supremes were very much bought and paid for...horrendous...before 1920 ish. After that it wasn't much better, but it got a little bit.

As a solution? It's not the millionaire with the privately owned f-4, or tank collection that is out there causing problems. The gun is not the problem. It's the cult that is the problem.

Bad guys are going to get guns...knives...explosives...dope...knock off car parts, knock off golf clubs...fake Levi's etc etc etc. restricting or outlawing something never works...

What does work, and having been a cop in a very serious town, is extreme and severe punishment for gun related crimes. Right now shooting someone in a robbery, good luck getting 10'years. Out in4-5. I've met MURDER, premeditated, parolees out on the street.

If you use a ****ing gun to rob a bank or a person, or you have a fit of rage and shoot at someone...you SHALL BE HUNG. You have 5 years from the date of the offense to appeal...then it's the noose... **** you...the end.

Our "gun control" laws are strict enough, but our punishment guidelines are a ****ing joke.

Nope not one ****ing bit what so ever. An armed society is a polite society.

Again, I have nothing against people having guns. I just want to make sure they are properly trained and mentally stable.

and who gets to determine what is "trained" and what is "stable" and what is not?

Again, learn why our founding fathers put the 2A there. You clearly have no clue what so ever.

I completely agree. Why are the Boston bomber and Colorado shooter still fighting their cases/in jail 2 years after the act? There should be a speedy execution for all those found red handed in any domestic terror situations. I'm in favor of an on the spot bullet in the back of the head for these sick ****s.

Also there should be harsh punishments for the registered gun owners in these incidents. It was the mothers, fathers, friends, grandparents, federal officers gun excuse doesn't fly. Gun ownership is a huge responsibility and if you chose to take it on, you should be held accountable for anything that happens with your gun. Don't leave it in the back seat of your 80s pickup where it can be stolen or in your dresser where your kids have access to it.

Hmm sounds simple enough. Given the current trend in recent historical events may be we prohibit any legal or illegal immigrants, refugees and people of questionable religions from owning any weapons? If any of them currently own any we should confiscate them. After all they are coming from 3rd world countries without stable governments or educational systems with many holding and preaching anti-American views and propaganda. Therefore, there is no way they can be "mentally stable" enough to "properly" own a firearm. May be we can start with all of the Muslims? Do you not want to prevent the same tragedy that happened in Paris on US soil?

I forget who said this but...Human being are not rational creature, we are rationalizing creatures.

You are correct. It is an imperfect world and need to operate within the confines of the playing field that is set but the government. I absolutely agree it is up to the individual to be knowledgeable, responsible and accountable for everything that happens in their country. Except people have seem to have lost sight of that...

Are you really asking for solutions from some random internet bloke on a Friday night? Come on tovarish All I was just trying to have a discussion about the underlying psychological/philosophical points of the topic and hopefully ask some thought provoking questions (I know that's a tall order on the internetz fight )

But if you want a solution, how about we pain all of the "evil black gun" in NERF bright blue and yellow livery to make them less "scary" because that's all that people seem to be concerned about. How stuff looks. Which I guess is appropriate given American culture's consumerist and form over function nature.

I think that's one of the first things I said and repeated it multiple times...There is a reason why it was made 2nd in line right after 1A. Someone had some effing serious foresight. IMHO Without those two as the underlying foundation, the rest of the Constitution crumbles.

How many here think they know how to tell if someone is armed or not?

Better question...how many here actually pay attention to your surroundings and are not burred into your iPhone majority of the time? May be someone can design an app for them?

I'll be your huckleberry...and I'm right about 90% of the time. People who carry only on their off hours usually carry their arms differently.
People who carry when they know they aren't supposed to, throw soooooooo many clues...

And some people act and carry them selves so naturally you could never know...

But you really really have to practice this...and that unfortunately means being in the business of searching out bad people with weapons. Not too many get into that job...
