Cowon D2 or A3. Its an unknown korean brand in the US. None of the other mp3 players can touch the Cowon mp3 players in sound quality and formats supported. I have a 4-5 year old Cowon M3L. Sound quality BLOWS away the ipods. I have it paired with Shure earbuds and its ridiculous. Its drag n drop from file explorer so no need for special software. They work on ANY system because of this (drives are fat32). Windows/Linux/Mac. No problem because when you connect it the computer just see's it as a hard drive.

And like i mentioned above, they play ANY format. xvid, divx, mkv, mp3, FLAC (<- huge plus for me). I wouldnt consider any mp3 player that doesnt play FLAC.
