If California were a job id quit. I lived in Oregon. Klamath Falls to be exact and I love it there but my family is here along with my 100k a yr job so Im willing to deal with it.

As far as our deficit I think its pretty easy the government in The peoples republick of California needs to stop spending more than its making. Sounds pretty simple right. So next time there is a Govenor election dont elect a dip ****.......

All my friends, family and cushy state job are here. Only thing that'd make me move would be a kickass job in Hawaii, or zombie infestation.

What a huge part of it is (because our damn population is so huge in California) is that we had the most houses sold on the block. Which means one thing... we over-created houses and people thought owning houses was like owning income. So if one house went from 100k to 200k, they doubled it. Probably bought 30houses after loans, and bought himself a nice Lambo...

Now the problem comes when this 1 dude with a lambo and plenty of houses can't sell a house anymore, and in fact, the houses drop in price, and so his income drops and so he can't pay **** and he over SPENT instead of saved and invested, so now the houses drop out on the market and get forclosed.

The housing market is in horrible trouble, the average house is still over priced. The prices have to probably drop below the 100k mark on average household in California. I say BELOW 100k because our history has 100k to be the normal average household but with the Congress and Obama administration, they're going to make it worse.

I still think the households will still drop (causing further deficits) even with this little bandaid that Obama thinks will fix it... It can't be fixed, it needs to drop out, get liquidated not bought out by the Fed Reserve (who practically owns a piece of everything that failed now).

The bubble made it seem that we were spending because we had money, the bubble disappeared, and now the real wealth is showing (no real wealth at all cuz the assets disappeared).

The only thing worse is that the people with the money at that time... didn't invest in stuff we could sell. Like sell to China or overseas or anything (US as a matter of fact didn't do this) so now, we have no savings, no money to BUILD machines to make cheaper stuff to SELL (this is the key word) to other places to even think about making up California's Deficit, let alone United States Deficit.

If I was a grave digger, I charge 50 bux a hole. if I had a shovel, I'd make 50bux each time. But if I had capital, if I had a bull dozer, I'd be makin a lot more money because I could dig more holes faster. The problem is that no one has the money to invest in the Bull Dozer and so the US is stuck overpricing our ****. (in the case like apple) and China and whoever else is undercutting everything (which is why so many things in a Walmart/Target are made from China).

We need to compete, and we need to compete and be successful at SELLING. The more we can export, than import, the more we save and profit, and the less we spend and consume. Unfortunately this means selling **** and paying wages WAYYY below normal. IE a dude makin 40k a year might be makin 20k a year doing things in the car industry... (still over priced). As housing prices drop, so should all the of the market to compete with tryin to sell low. (everything here still over priced) right now we're on the hyperinflation upswing... wait til it hits the downward spiral. (that's when things will get dirt cheap... including our wages) if we even have a job.

Yea one more idea I forgot to mention... if you saved, and were a diligent worker and have been paying off everything, you still get screwed. Obama's administration wants you to pay even more taxes for all the stimulus bills that the government controls.

I love living in CA... have all my life. Visiting the other states that I have (NV, ID, GA, OR) I cant really see myself anywhere else. I LOVE living in the Sac area. Two hours to snow one way, 2 hrs to beach the other.

The main reason I would not move is if I ever wanted to move BACK! Once you leave CA its tough to get back in, at least it used to. Had a friend who lived here and then moved to GA, got a nice deal on their house here and bought an even bigger house over there for less.

Few years later they wanted to move back but could not afford to buy a house in the same area they lived in. True in todays market you could probably find something prety decent for an ok price, but ya never know.

my two cents

Reasons I love CA:

1. Its naturally beautiful and has much to offer (NorCal)
2. Weather is amazing
3. Jobs (Well, used to be that we had jobs)

What I hate about CA:

1. The gun laws, and this is more important then jobs, beauty and weather all put together!!!
2. It's crowded as all hell, traffic, lines, etc
3. Some of the worst maintained roads I've ever seen and I've spent time in Eastern Europe!
4. Housing prices!!!
5. The most ridiculous laws of any state that I've ever seen. Nor referring to guns since it has its own category, but traffic laws to the most standard of laws, we have a law FOR EVERYTHING which gives police far too much power since you're always breaking a law even if you think you're not and police can use that to search you, your car, etc... Just a bunch of BS laws that **** me off.
6. Criminals have way too many rights. If someone breaks into your house and you blow his arm off with a shotgun because your life is in danger, he can sue you for damages, etc and even take your house! It;s happened in the past and it will happen in the future. We should be like Texas for those type of situations. If you life is in danger by an intruder that came into your house, he is fair game. CA gives far too many rights to violent offenders and it makes us citizens scared to fight back when we're in danger. Is that right? Hell no!

The ONLY reason I'm still in CA is because everyone I know is here, my family, my best friends, friends, etc. Without them, I'd be sooooo out of here and would be making far more progress on forming my personal militia then I am here in CA!

I'd go to the college town of Flagstaff, AZ. It's at elevation so it has seasons, it has one of the biggest pine forests in America, one of the best observatories on earth, SUPER dark skies which is GREAT for amateur astronomy and I'm really into astronomy which sucks living in CA... I have a HUUUUUUUGE telescope and can't even use it because the skies are so dirty and light polluted.

Flagstaff is a lot like Truckee, CA only a little more populous and is close to some big cities. If I could find a good job there, I'd move there in a second! Lower cost of housing, clean air, no congestion, no gun laws... Ahhh, heaven.

F' the east coast!

I thought about moving back to Germany and being an English teacher, but I couldn't stand the thought of not having my guns. I can still buy guns in Germany, but you're limited like crazy and can only have hunting rifles and like one pistol but its hard to get.

I thought about going for a few years and then coming back, but then I got married and my wife isn't too into the idea... I'm working her down though... She speaks better German then I do. I love when she speaks to me in German, soooo sexy!

the terrain...you cant beat it. I dont think there is any other place where you can drive 200 miles in any direction and see so much different terrain/climates.

I would move from CA in a second if it were flat!

Family, work, and gf are here, along with reasons #1 and #2 from brucelee's post.

One thing that has been going on in my head though, is learning German and moving to Austria or Germany. I spent a 7-week vacation at Austria about 13 years ago, and I really loved that country. I'd love to move there, especially having an uncle and a grandmother there, but they told me that it's a bit messed up out there as well. Germany's another option, though my only uncle that used to live out there moved to MA already (he did not want to raise his 4 daughters with the culture there).

We'll see. Hey brucelee, I need to chat with you sometime, I really want to actually start learning German

I already left my family and friends back in NY, so that is no excuse for me. It really comes down to finding a job and what not. I'd love the desert, but I don't know if I could handle being so far from the ocean.

CA is a sinking ship though, theres no getting around that.

I have absolutely no qualms about California living. I've lived in the Bay Area, and in So. Cal...in neighborhoods where people have been shot & killed, and where there are million dollar houses. I need to live where there's things going on, I can't be in a sleepy place for too long, Tahoe (for example) is too quiet for me. Fun to visit, but at the end of the day it could never be home. I doubt I'll ever live anywhere but the Bay Area, and that is a good thing.

Its awesome that in one day I can drive from the Pacific Ocean, to the snowy Sierra Nevada mountain range, and back. We actually have one of the highest qualities of living in the entire world. How far do most people have to go for food, for work, for gas,for schools, for medical care? Its all within pretty damn easy distance.

If you don't like laws/penalties for breaking them...then don't run afoul of them. If you have a problem with how ELECTED OFFICIALS do their jobs, then Rock the effing Vote. If you don't believe in that; then pray to whatever God you pray to in order to make your world a better place. Which in some places outside of our nation can get you killed, but ironically enough its a protected act on our soil.

Really people... how much do we REALLY have to complain about. Is it as bad as living in Husseins Iraq, Bosnia/Croatia in the early 90's, in the middle of an AIDS infested Africa, in post Katrina New Orleans??

I don't think people HERE appreciate how well off they are in comparison to others who wish they were here.
