Mililtary Question
Im going in the military. I want to be an infantrymen but im not sure if i wanna go in the Marine's or Army. Let me know what do you guys think.
marines are the only branch of the service that are allowed to be deployed without congressional approval
IF I were to join anything, it would be the marines

i was told if im going infantry go marines....no questions asked.
Every marine goes through infantry school. If you want to be a grunt then go fo it. Other jobs out there to look into. I think they need EOD devildogs. Had some of the best times of my life and still hang out with old buddies when they are in town. Not a good time to join now in my opinion. You will be standing waiting to get blown up guarding a police station or something. Worse, standing near a market place or school and then BOOOOM!! This is not what I consider a war. Babysitting yes.
ask me just about any question about army ill let you know. depends on how much you want to be deployed.
there are a lot of differences, such as the army has more "after" options, like airborne etc, and it promotes a lot faster.
i work with marines, most are a good bunch.

Best part of the military is that when you are all done with your time and you get discharged, they still get to FORCE YOU TO WORK IF THEY WANT TO FOR ANOTHER 4 YEARS! W00t! Yay for forced labor!

i dont disagree with it. i think we have a good reason for being at war etc. but i think that the way the enemy is fighting is retarded. I would love to serve my country.
again, feel free to ask about the army etc. faster promotions, less time on ships, etc. its up to you....technically youre joining the navy, so if you dont like ships and being gone most of your life, dont join the marines.
personally i think the army has better jobs. for example, as an interrogator i have a security clearance, speak a foreign language and have a cool job to boot. were actually called human intel collectors because we do interrogations but also some of that spy game **** (but that stuffs classified sorry). most times we get to wear civvies and grow beards when deployed.
plus, i go with an inf unit anyhow. so basically im like an infantryman + interrogator. for example, my next tour in iraq will be with 4th inf div. a lot of times we go with special forces etc.
thats just my take. maybe you want the whole marine experience but remember, you have to get out of the military some time, whether it be 4 or 30 years, and you might want some job thats worth a crap on the civilian sector while still having the "infantry experience".
shooting a rifle other than security jobs doesnt hold much weight except for the actual mil service when applying after your service. yes you have experience, troop leading, etc, but try telling the same govt agency you have a top secret clearance already (they dont have to pay lik 20-50k to get you one), you speak a foreign langauge fluently (which that training costs over 150k), and you have intel experience. as an added bonus you still can shoot the rifle.
im not just saying that because ive been in intel my whole career. actually, ive been in field artillery unit more so. i just recently changed jobs when i realized that shooting a rifle and driving tank-like vehicles wasnt going to get me too far in the future.
oh, and if you want some money to augment that, the 97E is one of the absolute shortest jobs in the army now. out of several hundred thousand troops, there is less than 500 of us at any given time (though they are desperately trying to increase that number 10 fold, so they are offering nice 20-40k dollar bonuses).
