Mexi-ALs OFF-ROAD adventure! Anyone want to do a big trip next time?

So i came across one of those subaru commercials where they show an outback going on every terrain it was exposed to, so i had a bright idea of going on a trail in nevada since there wasnt enough snow to board and drained pretty much all my $$ on this evil roulette table of hell! It was a first for me, without any supervision and any substantial knowledge on proper technique during off road conditions. So i woke up early in the morning, looked up some basic techniques for off roading, wheel placement... etc etc. Packed some water, snacks, and my vape pen. also brought my wife.... LOL. There wasnt really an actual address for the trail, so i called the forrest rangers office to inquire about this mythical trail open during the winter time. The coordinates were, 39.564993,-120.065788. I proceeded to check everything in the fozz... fluid check... tire pressure (had to lower the psi for traction).... then checked my sway bars and endlinks.

">

Got to the entrance!

">

Some trails were closed but i was looking for a special trail, allegedly requiring a 6" lift and some big AT tires.

the trail starts slow and very rough, the roads are unmaintained and there was a lot of, what looked like poison oak.

">

had to do it...

">

crazy things out there.... a lot of fire damage all over. some areas are engulfed in snow and some are extremely dry.

">

the snow...

I saw Bambi as well, and the entire area provides certain sections to freely shoot your firearms. At this time, there werent any fire restrictions so i started a bonfire.

">

overall, the trail was easy. my fozzy didnt meet the recommended requirements but got through the trail no problem. There were certain areas where i couldnt even leave the vehicle due to heavy foliage and i certainly wasnt going to jump off the side of a cliff. Some areas needed some boulders removed or placed strategically. I would recommend removing the sway bars, as the fozzy does not articulate too well when attempting to climb rocks, the auto tranny does help and also applying slight pressure on the parking brake helps it climb a bit better. only damage to the fozzy were from tree branches and bushes. bottom remains unharmed just covered in mud and snow. didnt scrape at all eventhough the forrest ranger said i will ruin my CAR. the whole trail took about 2.5 hours if i didnt take all those rest stops, for snacks and my vape pen.

Lol the time amount you spent taking these pictures and of yourself made this worthwhile to go through.

Dog Valley's not all smooth fire road so IMHO w/ a Forester that's a pretty fun section to do in a car. Heck, I might pack the truck this spring and go camping there again, do some fishing, etc. Good times.

Right on! Very cool adventure and nice pics. Every spring, before I took off the snow tires, I would go camp outside of lake tahoe deep in the woods. That 96 outback went places for real. The look on the faces of the 4x4 guys and gals was priceless when they saw the wagon crawling up the washed out trails. Only got stuck once and used a 2x4 as a lever and a tow strap to get out. Haha! Miss that old wagon sometimes.

Way to use your fozzie!
