Mann engineering
So I have received a custom quote from man engineering on a custom tune and was really amazed to how much this so call tune will cost. I understand the tuner is from San Diego but really shocked of how much it was going to be. I am not bashing on man engineering but just want some clarification on to what is going on with the price since I only payed 450 at eq tuning.
Thanks for the patience in waiting for the tuning quote below. Our tuner has gotten back to us.
Our tuner will only tune Ecutek or Cobb only.
For 91octane, tune rate is $695 plus license/dongle (if Ecutek it’s $600 license and dongle) and minimum 3 hrs at $175/hr.
The total to tune on 91octane is $1820.00.
If you want to tune on both e85 and 91, then it will be tune rate $1042.50 + $600 Ecutek license/dongle + 8 hrs @ $175/hr
The total to tune on both e85 and 91 will be $3042.50.
You will need to bring in your own e85.

Mann has a reputation for being expensive... and that's beyond excessive
GST will do the same for work for less than $1000 if you own an Accessport

Welcome to ecutek.
Think of it this way... you buy an accessport.
$650. Tune at EQ $450. Essentially $1100.
But yes... excessive. I'd take my car to Mike or Travis and have the do accessport. You'll pay less. Get the same attention to detail and you'll have a tuner in the area if something goes sideways that can fix it for you.

Save yourself a headache and avoid ECUTek. Or, if my old '02 ECU will work in your '03, you can have my ECU that has ECUTek already on it. Can't take it off once it's on (on our older 16-bit ECUs afaik). ECUTek has so few tuners now, and it locks out any access to anything other than someone with an ECUTek tuning license, it's a pita.
Open source tunes are usually around $500. Unless you want the additional features of the Access Port, I would go with an open source tune.
Maybe someone can explain this to me. Why do they have a tune rate + an hourly charge?

Snail performance, problem solved.
This is a prime example of why I would never in a million years spend a single dollar at Mann. They seem to have good stuff, but, also seem to think they are on Rodeo drive.

What the hell is a dongle?? Does the consumer have to pay for the tuner's licensing fees? And also don't understand how there's a 'minimum' 3 hours of tuning... Just confused man
If in doubt, FLAT OUT

I'm guessing it's Bill Knose since OP said the tuner is from San Diego. He's a good tuner.
Mann is pretty expensive, but they're also extremely good IMHO. I've had zero issues with the work they've done for me and they go the extra mile when other things have popped up for me as well.
I've already said this a million times too you can't easily go back to stock once you use an AP. Know who figured that out? Bill Knose, and he knows how to fix it.
ECUTek has long been known as a tuner trap since once installed really only your tuner will have access to your ECU anymore.
I have no idea why they are charging a high flat rate cost for a tune + $200 an hr times 3 additional?! They need to pick one of the other. You can only charge someone once for a tune and still remain in business.
