man i hate taxes...

man i hate taxes...

and being single. i friggin HAVE TO PAY over 1k to the govt AGAIN this year. last year i had to pay 1.5k!!!! its ridiculous and unfair. and i was hoping to get my bike painted


oh and thats withholding 0 on my paycheck too...

you should be claiming 1, 0 is if someone else is claiming you as a dependent.

you should be withholding more since they charge you a penalty if you don't pay your estimated taxes on time

i used turbo tax to do my taxes. i havent filed yet but thats what its lookin like im goin to have to pay. 1k to the govt. and 200 to the state.

that might be the problem, I would consult a preparer and see if you're missing any credits or something...cuz that seems like a lot...

It's really not too hard but look at some links. May help!

It's hard to summarize, but in short it maybe something you can do. Does not work for everyone but hell it's worth a reading.

Google it and you should get pages upon pages of information. Like I said, everyone is different but it will not hurt to try to decrease the amount owed.

Did you take your standard deduction? Before I bought my condo, I used to claim the standard deduction with claiming 0 dependents. I used to always get a few thousand back at tax time. If you can't beat the standard deduction with itemizing, then it isn't worth it. Now, that I itemize, I routinely get back quite a bit more every year. I'm thinking of changing to claiming 1 on my W4 so that I'm not refunded quite as much.
