Looking for a tent camping on the north coast!

I've been planning on taking my girlfriend up 101 to the north coast near Eureka to do some camping this weekend but there is a good chance the campground we were going to stay at will be full.

Does anyone know of any good, relatively secluded places that we can drive in and set up camp? I'm trying to avoid camping in a parking lot with RVs!

Cliffnotes: Drive-in camping location between Eureka and Crescent city.

Any input is greatly appreciated!!

screw the north, take her to pismo beach. drive and camp right on the beach and rent some atv's while you're at it.

Pismo is a dump

Are you willing to go inland? I can refer you to some spots inland, but secluded during labor day and hunting season is going to be a tall order

We really want to go up to fern canyon near Orick so I think we will drive up early Saturday and do a day hike there, find somewhere to sleep overnight then drive down to Mattole beach by Petrolia. Luckily I have a wagon and she is small so it can sleep two no problem in case we can't find a place to set up the tent.

It's going to be quite the adventure, which is what we were looking for in the first place! Thank you for the input everyone.

Gold Bluffs Beach, is one of my favorite ever. It's first come first serve, so it's most likely gonna be full.

Best camping spot in the whole country, Patricks Point, near Trinidad CA....Awesomely cool camping under the dense trees, and walk down a 0.7 mile path and you're on the warm sunny beach, it's wonderful.

That was the original plan but we didn't want to get up there and not have a place to camp. Mattole beach was fantastic and we couldn't have asked for a better spot. We did the 7 mile beach hike to an abandoned light house with a beach full of sea lions right below.

The highlight was going back on highway 1 from Legget to the coast and then highway 20 from Fort Bragg to Willits. By far the best public roads my car has seen. Big thank you to peter for the info about the campground!
