nice find! a friend of mine had one in the early 90's and it was a blast to drive. i'll be watching out for the "i hate to sell this but i found some other awesome deal/don't have enough time/garage space" sale in about 3-6 months.

I used to have an '83 GTI - probably the best car I've ever owned.
Bought it for $600... replaced the front wheel bearing and put over 100K on it in 2 years including 2 Auto-X seasons. Commented from Los Altos to SF 3 days a week for a year and got 38 MPG
After a set of shocks, a rear swaybar and a STB the car handled incredibly (it only weighed 1900 lbs wet)
At the end I sold the car for $1200
