Longboarders?
I've just been a skateboarder my whole life and never really saw the point of a longboard. Unless you're into high speed downhill/slalom or louge, a regular skateboard is much more versatile. For instance transportation, a longboard is clunky and slow to react and tough to Ollie up curbs.
I think the best setup for cruising/transportation (basically not doing many tricks) would be a zig zagger with big soft wheels...

Here's the last vid by my buddy Al with huge thanks to his editing:
Oh man I would love to learn how to surf. I need to check out one of those shops near my place and see if they have some old bust up board for a newbie to try! I am just across HWY 1 from the water.

Really? I would be curious to know why. I haven't skated since my Pops sold my Powell McGill..

Anyway, I jumped on my buddy's Loaded board and was cruising around easy peasy, seemed way easier than my old normal board. I want to get a board again so that's why I ask... Seemed like the longboard would be way more fun.

I used to do this run by my friends house and you just drop straight down the hill, I got clocked at 47. The speed is exhilarating on a long board!

Anyways....
Here is for you flat land tricksters
This place is called San Marcos Pass and I did this 2 years ago down when I was visiting a few friends at UCSB for Halloween, and boy is that one scary ride, if you fall or slip over the edge, you literally fall for an eternity.

But I know what you mean though, my friend has a very similar set up to your board. You can turn that thing into a bomber if you mount the trucks on the lips of the skateboard. I did it on mine and put on some stiff bushings and boy does it fly.
Nice, finally saw some of those vids, how fast are some of those speeds? Also on the subject of bearings, have you tried Bones Swiss? Really great bearing plus all Bones are shield removable so you can clean and lube them every so often and they seem to last forever. Last set of normal bone swiss lasted me over three years until I decided to try out the Ceramics which are about a year old now. Ceramics are crazy smooth and quiet!
Lastly, looking back at my original posts I seem like a dick, sorry I didn't mean to come across that way. It's just that when I read the title Longboarders?, the first thing I thought of was some some hipster with sandals walking with their longboard down the street (oops theres me being a dick again)

I have a skim board but I've never tried it. My mom bought it for me when she was in San Diego.. It's a Victoria something.. It's wood. You should teach me how to board.. I used to skate and surf and all that but now I just snowboard when it snows. I would definitely get into skim and longboards. Looks so sick!

sweet!
