i think the same thing, but if they took out the brain he doesnt feel anything. a squids tentacles are self moving things, not really controlled by the brain. so more than likely what your seeing is just the tentacles natural reactions to what is happening. which is why it only moves when the sauce is poured on it. there is also a dish served sashimi where they cut off the tentacles and they keep squirming around for a couple minutes, even gripping onto your mouth and face. it does seem really mean though. i could never think about eating a dish like that

Exactly. It's already dead, that is just the nervous system still reacting. Notice it doesn't try to run away like a life octopus would do well before getting hot liquid poured on it.
Either way, not something I'd want to eat.

Hey... this is equivalent to the farmer chopping the head of the chicken off and the body runs around.
The squid is dead, but it's so fresh that the salt causes the nervous system to activate. It should be noted that the rest of the body, with all the internal organs, are fully disconnected.
And since this dish is done with the full purpose of EATING the thing, this can hardly be considered inhumane; this happens in the animal kingdom all the time. It's a fresh kill.
That being said... I do NOT need my sashimi to be THIS fresh.

I for one would LOVE to try this dish. Hell, I'd also like to try the live baby octopus dish from Korea.

Stop being bleeding vaginas, it's already dead. Besides, if we lived in the wild, we would more likely than not be eaten alive by some carnivorous predator. It's just the circle of life.

You can tell alot by a culture by the way it treats its animals. ..and what I see is not impressive.
I guess once you have actually ended the life of a living creature, you have a different outlook on life.
Yes, I get that its only a squid, but there is no reason to prepare a dish like this in the modern world. 5000 yrs ago...or stranded on an island...or after the impending zombie apocalypse...ok, fine.
