All thoughts of an NHL best 53-18-11 regular-season record now are tucked away in the recesses of the minds of San Jose Sharks players and coaches.
For San Jose, the real challenge is now, namely to erase years of playoff disappointment and produce the Stanley Cup so many feel the club is capable of earning.
One can understand the high expectations for the Sharks when you look at core players like Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Devin Setoguchi and Joe Pavelski up front, Rob Blake and Dan Boyle on defense and Evgeni Nabokov in goal.
Standing in the way are the Anaheim Ducks, a club that struggled to find an identity for much of the season, but a team that righted the ship to the tune of a 42-33-7 record and 7-2-1 mark in its last 10 games. Anaheim also is a club not far removed from its 2007 Stanley Cup championship, still icing Cup winners in Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Scott Niedermayer, Teemu Selanne, Chris Pronger, Rob Niedermayer, Todd Marchant, Francois Beauchemin and J.S. Giguere.

Should be a physical one (especially since they played twice out of the last 5 games of the season extremely physical), and I don't expect the sharks to be up to par 'til mid-late series. Their line up has been coming back 2 by 2, but they dont have that extra step in their game just yet. I'm still waiting to see Clowe dominate like usual on the sides, etc. I didn't see that for the last 2-3 games (which were all pretty terrible against non-playoff teams).
What's worse, is that the defensive area has been lacking huge on body covering and zoning in on the puck.
I see this series no less than 6 games, and I'm afraid of Anaheim (as they won somethin like the last 12 of their 15) and they're playing good hockey. Hopefully the Sharks settle in there and get that groove back, (after all star break they've been mediocre at best). They shine on the Powerplay, and they are the best at winning 1 goal games (which in most cases I think that 1 goal lead and hold power is going to be very damn important).
Marleau didn't do much either, I didn't see his name being called after his return all that often for pushing any offense at all. Hopefully the Sharks play more heavier body the 1st and 2nd periods (cuz the sharks are just bigger in general than most hockey clubs) and by the time the 3rd comes, they are in the "+" category for goals.

I say Sharks in six.
I'll be there Sunday. Anyone else going? I tried to get glass seats in Anaheim for at least one game, but I got there too late. The tickets were already promised to someone else (my uncle has season tickets at The Pond).
I'm also really excited for the Caps/Rangers and Hawks/Flames. GO HAWKS!!
