Leaky Valve cover & Cam Seal
Leaky Valve cover & Cam Seal
Been running Redline 10W-30 since day 2, 70k miles and I've had a small problem with burnt oil smell in the cabin when driving uphill at neutral boost (no smell at positive boost).... I figured it was a valve cover seal and not an exhaust connections based on the smell characteristic and the dealership told me today (after an oil change) that it was my valve cover & one of the cam shaft seals on the passenger side.
I know replacing the valve cover seal isn't too big of a task but I'm wondering how difficult it is to replace a cam shaft seal(s) as I understand they are behind the belts and require a fair amount of dissassembly to get at. Advice?
I'm also wondering if this isn't a major cause for alarm since alot of people running synthetic in the WRX experience some weeping because of the weatability nature of synthetic oils....so maybe it's not that big of a deal?
Anybody have advice on replacing the cam shaft seals or valve cover seals?
Thanks,
Steve

I've replaced tons of cam seals, although never while the engine was in the car. Were you planning on doing it yourself, and do you have a fair amount of tools? Without having the car here to look at, I'm having difficulty picturing it. I'm curious what the flat rate time is on that job.
