Not trying to convert you but I will mention that I've been using a 2006 model MBP (since 2006), up until now I've had no major issues with it. Upgraded the ram to 4gb and the HD to 500gb@7200rpm with Snow Leopard all at the same time. All I do is work with multimedia programs all day long like FCP, Motion, AE, Photoshop ect... I know it no workstation but it sure has served me well so far. I think I found its limit when I was transcoding batches of raw video files from my 7D to the Apple ProRes codec... almost overheated, but still got the job done and still working.

The HP models I had were the DV2500t and DV6000 series laptop with NVIDIA chips. The difference between Apple and HP is that HP does not acknowledge the problem and will not replace them after the warranty period. From my experience, the sweet spot for these chips to go out is right after 3 years.

I'm sure there are other manufacturers using the same defective chips but I am just going from my own experience. The way HP handled my situation (and plenty others) has made me lose ALL faith in HP and at this point, I don't plan on supporting HP's current business practices.

I have not dealt with HP's business unit but I'm sure it's just as good as any other brands. I've had great experience with Lenovo and Dell business customer support. They're fantastic. Turn around time for issues are usually within a day or two.

Choku, you should really consider the Thinkpad lines.. even if you are not going to purchase the one I currently have for sale.

 

ASUS consumer laptops are top notch too. I would look into that if you're more geared towards pretty looking laptops :P

 

I really like how anyone who dared to type the word "Mac" into a post is a witch and must be burned. It would be interesting if you were able to read some of the posts objectively, and glean the content.

For me personally, I really do not care what kind of computer a person uses - but if they ask me for a recommendation, I will do my best to give them platform-agnostic situation-specific suggestions.

Often I hear people give very selective advice based on what platform someone has chosen, or try to drive someone to their selected plaform with little regard to the person's actual question. To me, that is stupid.
