Profits are what's driving the price up, supply's are purposely curtailed to create the illusion of supply demand issues, but economic theory is complete bunk in a market that is so badly manipulated.

Think about it this way- If true costs were actually rising in as reflected in the so-called wholesale markets, why are profits always through the roof at times like this?
The price demanded is always what someone is willing to pay.

I'm with you, I know they are making HUGE profits, but all companies want to make huge profits in today corporate run world. What I'm saying is they can do this ONLY because Americans are willing to pay. Priced demanded is always what someone is willing to pay, and we are willing to pay. So why would they stop making it more expensive?? They know they can make more money if they raise the prices.

As along as we keep pumping their prices are legitimate, it's really simple.

The only good I see from all the crap is FINALLY for the first time that I can remember, there really isn't one person I know who isn't doing at least something about it. Some friends are taking public transportation, some are driving less, etc.

15 gallons in the sti 330. 15 in the wagon 352.5

Since we don't empty it we'll call it 13.5 gallons at fill up...

13.5 in the sti is 297. in the wagon...317

So.... where's this big difference you speak of???
I have to agree with this. I'd get about 330 on my '02 WRX. Obviously a little higher than your calculations due to leaning out a bit with a tune. Right now, with an EJ25 shortblock in there, I get about 290 to the tank (like you said, about 13.5 gallons to fill up).

You can find 93 or 100 octane, it just won't be at the typical everyday pumps. California sucks for emissions

I wouldn't use the word legitimate, I agree that as long as no alternatives are available, they will continue to suck our economy dry.
I can ride my bike to work, quit skiing and stop working rallies, (and it will come to all this shortly) but our food markets and everything else is intricately linked to fuel prices, so we are all going to get screwed no matter what changes in lifestyle we choose to adopt-

In the end it is the collusion and market manipulation that makes this kind of thing possible, it wouldn't happen if we had either a regulated- or even a truly free market.
