does anyone know

Does anyone know how long you should keep oil in your car for? Not mileage wise.. I have a car that sits in the garage all its life. Has synthetic oil in it.

SHould i be more concerned about mileage vs time? I probably put less then 5k in the last 2 years.

i am not sure what the shelf life of the oil is in the car.. but many times for once it has been worked in it can be anywhere from 3 months to 1 year depending on the actual oil.

Amsoil for example advertises 15k miles (minimum) or 1 year, which ever comes first. but it doesn't sound like you're using amsoil and even if you were i would do an oil change just for safety.. changing it out once a year isn't that big of a PITA.

Do you have any data to backup this biased statement? MY UOAs from 12k miles of Redline (4 oil changes) show that it is an excellent oil. It is a bit high in Silicone, but that is not a big deal as long as it is not coming from poor filtration.

Aside from Mobile 1, Amsoil Euro 5w40 is the only oil I have had to add makeup oil to in a 3-4000 mile oil change interval. It was also the only other oil where a SHORTER oil change interval was recommended. It sheered down to a 30 or even 25 weight after 3-4000 miles.

The regular Amsoil was one of the highest rated oils I have used according to my UOAs.

For reference, I hit WOT 5-10 times per tank of gas...except the rare occasion where I get to go for a hard drive. The car is launched every 1000 miles or so to take some of the buildup off the clutch and keep it from chattering.

It's all about how you drive your car. Drive it like you're in a race every where you go and obviously that will affect its life.

I, 90% of the time drive my wrx very easy. I have no reason to gun it everywhere. After I get my Amsoil change I want to send a sample of it in after 6k miles to see how much life it still has.
please post the results if you get it done
