Also perhaps you should question the "amazing" mobil 1 oil..

I am switching to Amsoil on my next change.
I have seen tests showing it on a daily driver being good after 10k miles, and the amsoil filter is solid for something like 20k miles.

I've been using Motul 300v with good success. Overkill? Probably, but M1 gets crapped on on almost every Subaru enthusiast board, I'd never run the stuff.
I've been thinking of trying the Amsoil filter, if not the filter and the oil after the positive things I've read.

^^lab tests have shown it is good up to 12k in some instances.
It's all about how you drive your car. Drive it like you're in a race every where you go and obviously that will affect its life.
I, 90% of the time drive my wrx very easy. I have no reason to gun it everywhere. After I get my Amsoil change I want to send a sample of it in after 6k miles to see how much life it still has.
Problem with oils like Mobil1 is they can still have life yet allow excess wear on the internal metal. Which has been a commonly attacked aspect of mobil1 for a while now, and Valvoline had tests done to prove that mobil1 isn't living up to the minimal standards of a synthetic.

Plus Amsoil being 100% synthetic (unlike Mobil1) it does not break down under extreme heat like many other brands. And Amsoil offers the extended oil change oil of 15-25k mile intervals. (again assuming you're not heavily modded, and driving your car like it is a race car every day because those are variables that affect the life of your oil)
