The color and expiration they wrote down was wrong, but when I called they said that didn't matter! I have to call back tomorrow...supposedly they are reviewing it and will let me know.
I first called and was told to send in a copy of my registration. This was for the metropolis of Bakersfield - I did this and the ticket was voided - easy.

I got another one in San Francisco - man what a run around this one was. What makes it worse is that I was in SF that day. I was even in the area where the ticket was done, but I have a long term parking pass. The ticket had my license plate number and the description was for a black pickup truck. I have never owned either a black car or a pickup truck. Clearing this ticket was very hard, lots of phone calls and snail mail. SF City doesn't like to let revenue go. I found out later that I could have made this quicker by telling them about my parking pass and giving them the number.

I just remembered an even odder one, also in SF - I got a ticket for a 4x4 - that was the description (SUV?). It wasn't my license plate and it wasn't my VIN. They insisted that I pay it first before fighting it! I asked where they get the name from the license plate at, they told me the DMV - I called and they told me that plate is NOT associated with my name, they have no idea where the city and county of SF got that info at. There was no way I could prove to them that I didn't own that vehicle.

I'm not kidding, I couldn't send in my registration because it didn't match either the VIN or the plate....gaaaa.

That was...

before the Patriot Act.

Silly, now you can be held without charge, etc. if they deem you to be...

Nope, in the real world it is the other way round. You are assumed to be guilty unless you can prove beyond reasonable doubt that you are innocent. It is easier for the system to operate that way.

Nope, it's not like traffic court. In CA, the system is set up against you. You can call and request an initial review, but have to Pay before going any further. This would be no big deal if it weren't such a large fine, and it goes up $100 after 9/29!

You CANNOT ask to review the evidence or who the officer is.... basically it is your word against a piece of paper... and with the negative connotations around parking in a handicap, the odds are not in my favor.

Man, what an awesome way to screw with someone!!!! aahahah Dr3, is it you??? ahhahahaha... if so make it stop!!

Good news... whoever did the data entry crossed two of the digits when entering the citation data... my day just got a little better.

I need to call back in a week and make sure the record is clear, though, because they aren't dismissing the violation, just assigning it to its rightful owner!!

You would think that they could take a quick digital pic of the vehicle when they write the ticket as a comparison. Obviously it wouldn't help if the car was identical make, model & colour etc, but the chances are against that if it is a random error.
