Another is Hotel Kabuki in Japantown SF. They have an awesome room service full Japanese breakfast and they have tea service too...And a mini bar!
+1 to both of those, but have not been to Golden Haven for years. Calistoga is really nice as well, and some great places for breakfast and dinner right in town. Also the Wine Country Inn is pretty cool, has some awesome rooms and is also a B&B. V. Sattui winery still does free tasting, and they have an awesome deli where you can snack up with some fancy cheese, breads and stuff, taste the wine, buy some wine and chill in their huge grassy area consuming said wine and snacks. Lots of great places up there.

Also heard great things about Paso Robles, but never been. We were going to check that out next.

Forgot to mention "River's End" out on the coast in Jenner. Great restaurant and then walk down to your cabin.. Not much to do in the area cept walk on the beach but if you don't need to leave the cabin then... It's pretty awesome. Fireplaces, view of the beach, and pretty private.

Unfortunately, V. Satui no longer does free winetasting. It's $5 gets you at least 6 pours. And they Tri-Tip sandwich is the bomb, as is their Off-Dry Riesling.

Oh that's too bad - thanks for mentioning it. Can't blame them these days I guess, but I think they were the last one...

Fort Bragg also has glass beach which is a beach that has pieces of glass that was smoothed by the ocean instead of sand, but it is kind of hard to get to. And it has the Skunk train!

And it's home of one of the finest Breweries in California!!

North Coast Brewing Company

And right across the street is a chocolate shop

1. Drink copious amounts of Brother Thelonious Belgian Style Abbey Ale.
2. Eat lots of yummy chocolate

It is a good brewing one of my best friends worked there for awhile and Blue Star is probably the best wheat beer I've ever had. But if you go there get the sampler of all the beers.

The town of Bridgeport on the CA/NV border always has an old fashioned 4th of July celebration

If you want a cool old-town http://www.jamestown-ca.com/

IIRC, Bridgeport has a bar with a ton of bras nailed to the ceiling; give a bra, get a drink!
