hey guys..i didn't mean to send out the wrong signal with my screen name and asking for shops. This is the first time I've ever been on a forum and it helps me realize a lot about my car. You guys don't have to be suspicious of me. I have a 02 wrx and this is the first the DMV sent me the smog check stuff. I just want to get my car to pass. Here is my story if you guys are curious: I am running catless with uppipe, downpipe, header, and vishnu reflash...my check engine light is on for more than four years now. I modded my car this way because I didn't realize wat I gotten myself into until this former friend of mine said right after hours spent and months of waiting for each parts to come on installing the nuts and bolts and trashed all of my stocks parts and took my 6k cash that my car won't be able to pass smog. i was hoping that I wouldn't have to get it smog check for years and it has been almost 7 years. Then i got a mail from the DMV just three weeks ago. Now I'm just trying to find a place where I don't have to pay so much to get it to pass. A friend of a friend said he can help for $300 now im just looking for a cheaper one...if i can't get help from here I guess i'll just have to go with that offer. My car has gone through two major accidents and now it make rattle noises on city road and my front brakes are pretty jacked up. I only have 78k on it and im the first owner and im not about to get rid of it yet because the motor is still strong. I want to share this just to get anyone on this blog to relax and treat me like anyone else who needs help with making his car a better and safer car to drive. I just want to get this out of my chest because I feel like some of you guys think i have something to hid or trying bust someone here for doing anything illegal. I love my car and if i get a chance to start off with a new bone-stock car I would do a thorough research first before modding anything to it. I was just a naive high schooler who was trying to get his car to run fast and be part of the crowd and the whole car scene mix....

if the car is catless, no, you wont pass sniffer. The CEL is probably because you don't have the stock dp and cat (maybe you already said that in your post, I didn't read the whole thing because of the lack of punctuation/spacing)

heh, Mark runs a legit shop, so no it still needs to pass smog and all, just saying he wont do like alot of shady shops do and run the whole test, take your money, then fail you on a visual. But yeah you better not go there till you get whatever fixed and able to pass smog

Car Info: MBP is the blackest of blacks. HOLLA BLACK!
So I am in the same boat as well, and I have a couple questions.

* Can anyone point me to shops that will swap my stock exhaust back on?

* I have a catless up/dp and borla hush. I have all the stock exhaust parts except the stock axleback for whatever reason (can't find it). Will I pass the visual with the Borla Hush Catback and will it mate to my stock DP or wiLL i need some fabrication done?

bump from the dead. can someone pm me shop recommendations in SF that have passed you for sniffer? I have the stock 3rd cat with a prodrive axel, sti up, and bosal divorced shorty down. It should pass sniffer and isn't flashy in terms of the dp being shiny or anything. If not, I could swap the stock dp in, but I'm heinously busy with other things...

another member helped me out, but out of respect for his privacy, i won't give up his name. i guess if he wants to help others out, he'll post up or pm you guys directly.

btw, from my understanding, i think most wrxs w/at least a catted downpipe will pass. i'm not sure if the mid-pipe cat will cut it.
