Get back in the parts dept...do they know you have escaped?

An '05 is close enough to a new 06 price wise, and harder to find, that it'd be too much extra work to buy an inferior machine (aside from the looks *drool*)
SO...it looks like I'm going to be waiting a few more months and saving up.

if your looking for an 05 already, why not just get a new one? the better rate you will get on a new car loan will offset the price differnce from buying a year old, isnt SOA still doing 1% financing? And if you do go new, take it from me, buy your cars off the internet
go to Edmunds and enterthe car your looking for and choose the "get quotes from dealers in your area" you will get prices from the internet/fleet sales person from all the bay area dealerships, they know you are also getting prices from all other dealerships, you will get wholesale pricing this way, DO NOT pay more than $100 over invoice(not MSRP) for an 06 WRX or your getting screwed

And I am going for an '06. I said exactly what you did. It's not worth it to try and find an '05, or to pay almost the same for an older machine that's technically inferior (even if I love how it looks)
Update
Ok...here's the deal. Got some information from a recommended dealership on the main WRX boards. Talked to the guy...so now I know what I'm up against.
So, here's the plan. In 6-8 months, buy a WRX. In the meantime, I'm going to sell off my current car (and truck) that I own, get my finances otherwise situated (which should only take another month)....AND because I'll have two points dropping off my record (from three years ago) about that time. I should have around 7,000 to put down on the car, less points and potential good deals on the 06's (making room for the 07's).
That, and I'll get to know local WRX owners better...and learn a <beep> ton of information about the cars.
Thanks again to everyone who has taken interest in my situation. All the input and comments have been appreciated.

btw welcome around
Update, haha.
I looked at quite a few WRX's and STi's...but in the end, I decided to get the SRT-4. Basically, when I had the money, all the WRX's I found were '04 and below, or higher mileage than I was comfortable with. I spent months searching, and realized that either I spend more money than I wanted on a newer/new WRX, or I pick another car in the price range.
So...I picked up my SRT-4 for 16k fully loaded (not that it mattered, but I figured it couldn't hurt). I still have love and respect for the WRX's, and sometimes I wish I had waited even longer to get an STi, but I just couldn't justify spending 30k or more on a car right now.

P.S. I know everyone was dying to find out what happened to me.

I was actually looking at one years back as well...a friend of mine ended up picking it up. They are REALLY fun to drive...I was surprised. Not a ton of power, but they handle pretty damn well.

Capitol Subaru in south San Jose will give you a lifetime powertrain warranty on a new or used subaru. Seem to be mod friendly as well.
Great parts and service guys there too.
