I'm just not a fan of the bug eyes. =/ Picky, I know. But I'd rather not settle for something I won't be as happy with, vs. waiting longer. Now, it's entirely possible I can buy an '04 from a private seller. But, I'll still need warranty...and I'll have to take more time to have it checked out, look it over, test drive it a couple times, get a second opinion from a friend, etc. Though, a lot of the checking can potentially be done by a dealership if the car is under warranty.

Anyway, we'll see. I just started looking yesterday. So far, I have a bunch of potential hits.

Thanks for all the input, by the way.

Just stay away from prestige.. I have nothing else to say really.. if you need an inspection, consider taking the car to LIC.

Nice, I recognize your name from your license. You work at Sonic.net, right? I see your blue STi quite often. Your license made me laugh pretty hard the first time I saw it.

And thanks for the warning. If I can't get an '04 WRX this time around, I'm just going to wait longer and get an '05. Maybe even an STi. We shall see.

Ok, so since you North Bay people have obviously purchased WRX's...where are you getting them? Did you have a bad experience at these dealerships, which is why you don't recommend them? Or...? So far, from what I've seen, Marin Subaru and Santa Cruz Subaru seem to be regarded as 'good' in CA.

Guilty as charged thats me. I'm amazed, someone has actually seen my car woot. As for the reasons behind reccomendations for and against various dealerships lets see what I can list off. Search the fourm and you'll find a whole thread on stevens creek that speaks for itself. As for prestige, they are underhanded and liars. They tried to play games with one of my coworkers (he used to work in the auto industry) when he was buying his wrx so he just left and went to marin mazda/subaru. Also craigslist and these forums are a good source to find a car. I got mine off craigslist. It still was/is under warranty and I had it carefully inspected at a dealership. I am fully satisfied with it and have no regrets (except not being able to buy the LIC racepreped STI currently for sale for 28k).

IMO, dont worry about the warranty. Subarus are great reliable cars and you will most likely end up modding the car anyways

Plus, if something did go wrong and you took it into the dealership, they would probably claim "ABUSE!!" and not do work on it.

My 2 cents.

Oh yeah, and welcome to eyeclub!

I work with Zeke's ex. I'm an IT guy too.

Very cool. I've already e-mailed Subaru of Irvine (born and raised in OC, so I have lots of friends and family in the area.) I'm also in contact with a guy in parts over at the Marin Subaru. I guess the main sales dude is out on vacation for the next 10 days. So depending on how things go with Irvine, I'll be getting in touch with him when he returns.

Well, I do worry about the warranty. If I wasn't going to bother with a warrantied car, I'd buy a DSM for $2,000, then dump a $1,000 a month into it. Problem is, I have ZERO work space and not enough time to be wrenching that much. Also, being an older car, the 'luxuries' aren't as nice as the newer sports cars. Plus, the WRX is group friendly with 4-doors. I *really* like that, after owning a couple 2-doors. - As for modding, more than likely..I will eventually. But honestly, I KNOW I'd be happy with the WRX (stock) for at least a year or two. Enough time to make a good dent on my payments, and be making more money.

I've also been referred to the dealership in Santa Cruz. Brian, I think the guys name is down there. That'll probably be my third option, to be honest. Just based on geographical preference. But thanks for reaffirming the quality of the dealership for me.

And thanks for the welcome. Good to be getting feedback from the community.

I bought my FXT at Jenson in Napa. Same with my previous Subie, a 2000 OBS. Had pleasant puchasing experiences both times, but that may be because I did my homework and/or bought through the Subaru VIP program. I haven't always heard good things about them otherwise, so YMMV.

Hey, I say this coming from SLOW cars the past...geez. 5 Years.

First car: 1993 Saturn SL (85hp)
Second car: 1993 Probe GT with exhaust, intake and ZE swap (~170whp with aspec ECU)
Third card: 2005 Focus ST (151hp)

Going from these FWD slow cars to a turbo AWD car, I honestly think it'll be SUCH an improvement, that I WILL be happy for a while to come. If I've driven these pieces for 5 years...heh.

So, you said black MIGHT be a possibility?

I'm sitting here staring at an '04 with the sunroof, and all the bells and whistles with less than 25k on the clock. It's sittting here waiting patiently for you to come down and test drive it.
