Makes perfect sense to me.
1. It's newer.
2. It has less miles
3. It's worth more
4. It's more likely to get stolen
5. It's far more likely to get into an accident.
6. The forester is a small SUV. The WRX is a sports sedan.
All those go together to make a higher premium. I pay more for my 2004 wrx wagon than we pay for my wife's 2011 forester.

Don't know. I don't own a lotus or an m3. Seems to me that if you own them you should understand why things cost more for those particular cars.
My suggestion... ask your insurance agent.
My guess... The M3 is probably higher on several of their lists... accident percentages, tickets, thefts. If more of them (percentage) are stolen, wrecked or ticketed... boom. Higher insurance rate.
So my guess is that the M3 is probably stolen more often, wrecked more often and receives more tickets per capita.
Side note... I have no idea why BMW owners feel the need to broadcast what motor is in the car. I am aware that an E46 came in a 2002 M3. So unless you stuffed and E92 in it I don't care what motor is in the car. Most people probably have no idea what an E46 is. Those that do are aware of it being in your car.
I don't go around saying I drive a 2004 EJ20 WRX.
Most people would be like... WTF is an EJ20. The rest would say... no **** dude.
Damned pretentious bmw owners.

All you did was prove my point. I'm not on a bmw board and frankly don't know much about them. I look at the year and model... that's about it. I nearly bought a 540 back in the day. I have no idea what the body or engine code was. I suppose if I bought it I would care.
I just don't get it. On a bmw board sure I guess. Like people do here. Even in my honda days I never really followed the whole EG, EK nonsense. I don't do it here either.
I can't even remember my own chassis code most of the time.
Just never understood the point of saying....
I own a 2004 Impreza WRX Wagon GD EJ20 AWD.
Too much nonsense. 2004 WRX Wagon is enough unless I'm trying to sell it or I put an EJ255 or 257 in it or something else that changes the stock configuration. But then again I just wrote a book about a bunch of bull****. LOL!
Thank you for my education on BMW's. I will now never make that mistake again. I always assumed it was the engine code. Suppose I should have known better.

I might understand what codes go with what years but I always thought it was motor not chassis. Now I know better.
I never claimed to know **** about BMW's. LOL! Definitely proved that. Haaa.
I think it's because he list the dba and his gtr as weekend only car and could only put a certain amount of miles on there, and his prius and truck is his main form of transportation.

Ours is I think around $1100 a year for 3 cars. But one of them is 60 years old and listed at 2000 miles a year. Right now it sees zero miles. Need to finish it. But I keep in insured just incase.
