Stop caring about your dumb photos? What if you're famous and you post up a picture of yourself doing something silly for your friends/family to see. Now instagram has a photo some company can buy from them and splash all over the world and you don't get paid. This then pisses off the people that do pay and you loose endorsement money... your way of life.
Or what if say I post up a picture of my daughter playing for a very select few people in my close private account to see. They then take that photo and sell it and spread it all over the world. Now my private photos is out for public consumption of MY daughter. What if it's used for something I don't agree with... or embarrassing, etc?
It's bull**** and so is that blog.
I guarantee you that IG would still be used if people had to pay .99 cents for it and they'd make a hell of a lot more money off of that than they will for selling images.
That person also has no clue of the business model used for something like IG. One basic reason Facebook bought IG... to stop them from pulling money out of Facebook's pocket... protection of assets. It puts them in the mobile format without having to make a space for it for themselves against an established company. And Facebook is trying to create a new platform and needed something like instagram as part of it.
The purchase of instagram had NOTHING to do with making money off of people's photos. That's peanuts in the grand view of things.
Beyond that... the first person that files a law suit against them for selling a private photos WILL WIN...
From the IG page...
"Who can see my photos?
All photos are public by default which means they are visible to anyone using Instagram or on the instagram.com website. If you choose to make your account private, then only people who follow you on Instagram will be able to see your photos."
So right there... if my account is set to private and you sell my image you are breaching your own contract.

A: Thats business so F*** You.
and
B: What do you care if someone sells your crappy pictures of yourself/friends/family to any company they want without your consent? Do you really care about privacy that much, you're NOBODY!
lol WOW what a total douchebag, but what do you expect from a a site like Gizmodo
Instagram is a business, and as a business, it will never put your best interests above your own. You should never expect a business to watch out for you, or care for you, or do anything other than make money, because that is the reason businesses exist. To conduct business.
Heres a pic of the writer Sam Biddle, who else would like to see this D-bag on a poster for genital wart medication? Im sure he wouldnt mind using it without his consent, I mean, who cares about privacy these days??

No, Instagram can't sell your photos: what the new terms of service really mean | The Verge
It's no different than Google's Picasa or Facebook's picture. In fact, most free photo hosting sites have this practice. If you want to host pictures without this, go pay for it. Companies need to make money somehow, servers aren't free.
Continue freaking out everyone.
