i was debating whether to buy a used STi as well. then i thought.
1) insurance difference (even with a swapped motor
2) i prefer lighter weight vehicle than more power
3) for me too much work transfering/selling the many parts
i guess gas mileage would be the same for me anyways.. hah
the dccd would be nice though.

I am going to need a new set of gears soon for my 04 wrx and i am stuck between a gear set or the sti tranny. The only thing is i got a quote from LIC for one and it was going to be 7k for everything to be done and i don't have that much money. Then i have reading about other gear sets and people say that on the freeway your car is at like 4500 going like 70-75. So i was wondering what you guys think i should do because i cant afford 7k for a tranny swap but i dont want my car to be ridiculously loud on the freeway. I can afford around 5k.
TIA
TIA
A guy locally got a '03 STi bugeye front clip, tranny, axles, drive lines and rear diff for about $3500 from Japan. He did the motor swap and tranny, brakes, diffs, yadda yadda. You would just need to do the tranny, clutch, flywheel, diffs, and drive line. I bet you could DIY for about 3k. I am sure plenty of people in your area would lend a helping hand.
If you want I can ask dude where exactly he purchased all his stuff.

i dont know anything, all i know is you dont want to do more than 4000 rpms going 80! THAT WOULD SUCK!
and what do you TURBO guys need shorter gears for? maybe me in an RS but Turbo you have enough power to pull through all of them.
My Mazda GTX has 4 short gears and a 5th gear from a 626 which lowers the RPMs for the freeway, idk if its possible with subarus

my first grind if I shift too fast and my fifth grind if I shift above 3.5k. I just take it slow on first and double clutch on fifth.
