Im having a dilemma

I am going to need a new set of gears soon for my 04 wrx and i am stuck between a gear set or the sti tranny. The only thing is i got a quote from LIC for one and it was going to be 7k for everything to be done and i don't have that much money. Then i have reading about other gear sets and people say that on the freeway your car is at like 4500 going like 70-75. So i was wondering what you guys think i should do because i cant afford 7k for a tranny swap but i dont want my car to be ridiculously loud on the freeway. I can afford around 5k.

TIA

I was in your same situation not even a month ago. I researched all of my options very thoroughly (ra gear sets, sti swap, ppg's, kaaz). It was all so much money after everything was said and done that I found it easier just to finance a new STi =P. If that isn't an option, I personally would go with an ra gearset and retain your stock 5th gear as that would be the cheaper option. It would be very hard to do an STi tranny swap for under $5,000 once everything was done and you calculated in the oops factor.

What's wrong with your current tranny?

Gears are staring to grind, wont go into 1st gear 1/2 the time, and 3rd gear pops out all the time.

Perrin- Why don't you just retain your stock 5th and get RA 1-4?

its just a lot of work to do that. I have so many mods it would just be a hassle.

A hassle that is well worth it. I had a stage 4 wrx with an awesome suspension setup and am still happier with my STi. You just get so much...6 speed, 2.5L,brembos,quick steering rack, bbs's nice interior, etc.
