Dude.. ok.. Check it out. You live in the Bay Area.. Why don't you go to school with your Bike (EARLY) and have someone drop you off there. Once you're established, Go apply for a parking permit. If you don't get it... hell, it's ok, You can pretty much get ANYWHERE with your bike.. and if you do get the permit, Go back home and pick up your car. Simple as that. I would sometimes take the Amtrak downtown and go to Emeryville or Richmond BART... and there's also a UCD/UCB bus that takes you to berkeley and you can hop on a Bart from there. back then in 97, it was about 4 bux to get on that bus. it wasn't bad at all. Amtrak (with the student card) was 12 bucks. hope that helps

dude chill the **** out.
stay in the dorms, and leave your ****ing car at home.
some of us actually commute, and its the douchebags who already live on campus yet still, for some ****ing reason, get a parking permit when their dorms are like 2 ****ing steps away from campus...

not trying to be an *** just trying to keep it real.

you have to admit, having a car is very convenient. i mean id also ride a bike, but when you wanna get out a little bit, a car really comes in handy.

David, if you bring your WRX to college, we'll have one less cool Imprezas on our block.

Good luck and enjoy the college life...

doughboy: I graduated with a double major in Aeronautical and mechanical engineering. I went on the 5 year plan so I started in '94. Good times. Long nites, but good times.

As for the car vs bike issue. If I were a freshman, I'd rather go with a bike. Get mom and dad to give me a ride with all my crap. All the dorms have roads (bike roads) going anywhere imaginable on campus. (even places without roads ) Its almost pointless going around with a car since (unless you know sophmores/juniors/seniors/superseniors/relatives in the area) you won't really be going anywhere with the car. You most likely would be biking everywhere and getting your car dinged up by dingbats in a rusted out old toyota corolla hatchback who don't know the meaning of parking spaces. I never had my car up there except after I moved out of the dorms and into the apts. My advice to you.

Now as for the permit. I think there was one when I looked at the TAPS site. We parked for free when I was there IIRC.

Tim

I'm having the same dilemma as well. I really need to bring my car to college with me because if I leave my car at home, my teenage sister will reak havoc on it. And she's just about to get her permit, ahhhhh!!!

yeah, i thought about it, and i think im just not gonn abring a car there the first year for a few reasons, one being the 06 doesnt come out until september and ill just wait a school year to have the prices drop down and such, and 2, its hard to get the parking permit so ill save myself 400 dollars, at first i figured a car would be nice if i wanna go home or go to tahoe or something, but i dont htink ill have time for any breaks or fun, ill just be staying on the campus studying my *** off.
