I don't think just absently raising the price is the answer. There's no reason it can't be done affordable for everyone. $20/30 tickets plus gas plus probably a meal on the way home as I'm not home til' late plus a cup of coffee on the way out makes for an $80-100 day. Toss in a shirt or a hoodie and a few raffle tickets and we're pushing up to $150. Sorry but that's a lot of dough to hang out with a few friends and drink a beer with Paul.
And just imagine the folks from SoCal that come up.
All it will do is make for MORE ghetto people because they'll be more people willing to lie or sneak in. No reason to hike the price up just to hike the price up.
For $150 I'd rather do a track day.... or eat for two weeks.

Oh man, tell me about it! I'd love this, but as the past has shown us, it's hard to rely on people. Someone can tell you that they will do xyz for the event, and as time goes by they forget or lose interest and bail on us which leaves a huge gap that I need to fill. We actually do have people helping out in the way that you mentioned, but they aren't all members of this forum, they are mostly my family or best friends. We do have some i-clubbers who help but it's only a few guys that I can rely on... We need like 15 more.
Our team is about 8 large including my wife and family.

They could get the volunteers a little "sumthing sumthing" for helping out.
Like something for their cars or what not.

I don't like price increases. Call me a whiner or a *****. It already costs me a full tank of gas to get to BAM and a full tank of gas to get back to school.
Not wanting to pay more has nothing to do with being "ghetto" and more to do with being in the financially precarious situation of a student.
A vendor based competition could be interesting. I like races of the install/uninstall/swap nature. It'd be like pit crews or something with spare tires or an oil change. Jungle ball (volley ball) is happy fun times and jousting sounds bad ***.

So have like 4 volunteers needed for the parking assignment
2 for Treasury
2 for site planning
8 for cooking and cleaning and so on..
yes that is true but it's wouldn't be a free for all. There should be a max number of volunteers and no more. You don't need too many cooks in the stew.

That reminds me of the South Park episode where Cartman serves the kid his parents in a bowl of chili.

I agree with Gagan about charging vendors less and charging people more but there's no way we could pull that off if we want to continue to have the large turn outs that we normally do.
Sadly we have a lot of cheap people here and they will let you know how unhappy they are or how crappy of a job you're doing because the meet isn't free and we don't give free engines to everyone that participates in the raffles.

Daniel, racing keeps coming up as wanted, but like you've mentioned - it's just not a possibility...
or is it?
with an event of this size, you could probably contact an RC track or store from the bay area to put up a small course with a few entry level race cars for people to race around. they have software and equipment to time laps and have staged heats / main events. pm me and I could probably put you in contact with a few of the "heavy hitters" in the bay area RC community... seems to me it would be mutually beneficial for all parties. you'd get a cool event, they would get some kickin publicity.
