I want to sell my 07 STi and buy an EVO-X+

I have a deep love for EVO's, and the only reason I don't have one right now is because my wife says she'll divorce me if I do the switch, lol... If we had EVO's available here in 99 and 2000, I'd have one instead of my 2.5RS.

Here's my question: To you converts, do you regret leaving the subie world to move on to the EVO world? Any issues? Things that we should know?

Evo cons: smaller trunk in the evo (7 cubic ft vs 11 in sti), smaller gas tank (14.5 gallons vs 16 gallons), consumes more fuel.

I love my X. Its really amazing how well it handles and the STi can't hold a candle. Its not really a rocket in stock form power wise (Im stock) but its also possible to make 300 whp with just a tune and works drop in filter. The factory tune in the 08's is pig rich but they did some changes to the 10's tune. The 08 made like 220 ish whp and the 10's are making 275 whp in stock form! The only difference is the tune so the 08 can be made just as powerful. The recaro's are freakin amazing too!

Right about the tank, not about the consumption. I get steadily 24-25 mpg commuting. My old STi got horrible gas mileage.

Oh and known problems right now are the fuel pump relay, it needs to be green or blue, and its not a recall so you have to replace it yourself. Another common complaint is the transmission is very crunchy on the GSR, I first swapped to Motul gear 300 and it didn't get any better, but on forum reccomendations I switched to Redline MTL 75w85 and its like butter. The tranny in the X is also supposed to be built stronger that the previous 5 speed in the 9 GSR.

I don't think anyone buys an STi or EVO for the trunk size and awesome fuel economy. lol.

The EVO is the better performing car for the money without question. It also gives you a better ROI mod wise. My EVO 9 with only a TBE and tune was making well over 300whp.

Edit: IMO the CT9A's are the best EVO's made to date. Try driving a IX and a X back to back and see which one you like more.

Mistubishi has some of the worst QC in the industry... I'd put them just above Dodge.
Good ideas with bad execution

I'm on my 3rd Subaru without so much as a dead battery

Car Info: Some sort of Subaru
My brother has an '08 Evo X and it's a lot of fun. He had some issues with the MAF sensor due to a faulty sensor. The trunk is a little small, but he can carry his autox wheels/tires in the back seat (285/30/18 Hoosier A6 mounted on 18x10.5 wheels). The Evos handle pretty well and it's very easy to make power in these cars.

I'm on my 8th mitsubishi with no abnormal issues.

I owned a 2004 WRX, at one point, brand new, It audibly knocked from the factory, 100% bone stock. Had to get a tune to not kill itself. Not that I cared as I've never let one of my cars stay stock.

Currently own two mitsubishis. Have you owned any? You might be mistaking the american built mitsubishis with the japanese built mitsubishis. The american built ones can be piles, I'll agree with you on that.

2005 Evo 8 MR with 72k, a billion track events. Still stock motor, 412whp / 400wtq on E85. One of the very first E85 Evo's in the bay area. Basically was a R&D guinea pig all of it's life. Went through two 6spd transmissions but that was because I tracked the hell out of it. Rest was wear and tear, but again, still on the stock motor with twice as much horsepower to the wheels. Took it the track, the ocean, Tahoe every weekend in the winter for 3 years straight. So sea level to 8000 ft, 105F to 5F and back again. Never stranded me ever, did I already say it's making twice as much wheel horsepower as stock on a stock motor?

2010 Lancer Sportback Ralliart. Made 193whp stock, now making 360whp on E85. That's almost twice as much power to the wheels as well.

To Mr. BruceLee. I mix the boxer sound. The 4G63 and 4B11 doesn't have the best sound but it doesn't sound like crap. The Evo was hands down a better car for me on track.

I'm not a Subaru hater by any means. Mike would probably smack me upside the face with a beer bottle if I was.

I personally came from an 07 STI to a '10 X
The 2 cars are really too different animals. The Sti is better built quality for sure, but the EVO is a much better handling car and performance is about the same stock.
Once you throw on a few parts and tune, the EVO is much more responsive.
No stock turbo/TMIC Sti will reach 350-360whp on GST/FFTEC 's mustang Dyno, while there are probably a few dozen Bay Area Evo IX/Xs that are stock turbo/FMIC/cams/intake that are playing in that area.
My IX MR has only a Speedelement eleventy billion filter and TBE with Bryan's tune made 355 whp stock EVERYTHING else, down to the airbox and expanding inercooler pipes.
If you like the boxer sound like I did, you will also enjoy a X with some nice cams as well!
Having Owned an 07 Sti and still driving around an E85 IX/ E85 X GSR, I can definitely bsay that none of these cars are better than the other at everything, but I truly believe that the EVO is just a better platform.

Love my FXT. Once I'm done with the whole modding shenanigan, I would like to pick up an Evo myself, although it would be an 8 or 9 MR.

The bottom line: Get the car(s) you've always wanted, particularly the ones that are within reach. Don't settle for "good enough". Happiness is worth the trouble, whatever they maybe.
