Look, I know this sort of stuff happens a lot of the times, especially with minority folks, and it sucks, but in these circumstances the cops went over board in my opinion. Perhaps because I was the one in the hot seat, I don't know, but I'll vent.


Two night ago my wife and I went shooting, I brought my "evil" AR-15, M1A SOCOM II, and Converted front SU-16B, all with high capacity magazines. Here are the pictures of the rifles as they were:

(Sans the 30 round mag in the M1A, had a 20 pre ban mag)







(Btw, that SU-16 in that configuration in so damn fun to shoot when its clean).



Anyway, we come home and eat and I go straight to bed... but I couldn't sleep so I decieded to go for a drive a a VERY VERY VERY tight small canyon road (I'm literally talking one car length wide with cliffs on each side), its called Morrison Canyon road... Anyway, I'm cruising along and see bambi and her two kids crossing the the road (I've seen people hit deer and not survive because of impalment, etc), so I tired to swearve, barely had time to brake, I estimate I was going 35+45 when I smack that tree... Worst feeling ever. DONT EVER HIT A TREE!! NO GIVE ALL ALL!

Lucky I had Verzion so I had reception there (none of the cops did with ATT).. THey ask me if I have any weapons in the car, I say no (totally forgot), I get to the hospital and within 30 mins there's a slew of officers at the hospital asking me a bunch of questions..."Do you have weapons? " "Are you sure"... Thats when it hit me and was like "OH ****!", then I explained how my wife and I ahd been shooting earlier.

This is where it gets good. He says "Those are illegal rifles and we are taking them". I'm like "WHAT" Then I explain that the stuff is pre-ban, and I have papers for it, etc... regadless, the put me under police "protection" until evertything cleared.. WTF@

Not more than two hours later the cop calls my WIFE (cuz he wouldn't talk to me) that said all my rifles check out and that they can pick them up...


He told my wife that I was full of **** and that I was probably out there to kill something... Then she showed him the reciept of the gun range.

Dude, did you break a mirror or something? Take one of your guns (or more if u want), and just barracade yourself in a corner of your house and shoot anything that moves (not your wife or kidz tho!)

Well, if i saw guns like that, i'd have thought there were illegal too.

well I can understand why they didn't believe u, because first u were involved in a crash (they may have thought u killed something or someone when they found the guns and since u didn't severely injure any deer, they probably ran away once u swerved), 2nd u lied to them about having any weapons (even though u forgot), and 3rd they found assault rifles in your car. I could see how they saw u guilty till proven innocent and taking your word about what happened with a grain of salt.

 

things would have been worse if there was a shooting reported in the area :x

 

I have to agree with the cops on this one Dan. I think they were completely within their right to do what (little) they did.

 

**** if I was a cop and found an arsenal of assault rifles in the back of a car smashed into a tree in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere I'd probably place you under police "protection" until I saw papers too.

Fortunately you have papers.
