I need an MPEG -> AVI converter... Suggestions?

I need an MPEG -> AVI converter... Suggestions?
As the title states, ive got some MPEG's I need to convert to AVI's for conversion to .gig's... Any suggestions on what software to use?

I think VirtualDub can do it www.virtualdub.org
Also maybe RAD Video Tools can do it, but I'm not sure on that one.
Both are free. If you have $$$$$$$ then Adobe Premiere can definitely do it.
Edit: FlaskMPEG can probably do it, that's what I use for compressing DVD .vob files to DivX.
