it all boils down to your're own decision.Me i give to the needy but i try to see if they have bad habits like smoking, drinking beer.If what you give to them is use for something else than the other intented use.And i dont usually give to someone i just met.Just use common sense.

That was a very good deed! I actually heard a simular story before though(some guy needing money to get home cause his car broke down.... Hey lived far away), and gave the guy 5 bux. He was wearing a suit and seemed like he was telling the truth, and a few weeks later I seen him again!

RE: 20 spot

I commend you for the good deed, but you are lucky he didn't ****** your wallet and book, or man-up and shank a M*****F*****...hahahaha. I may have given him some money if it was loose in my pocket, but I would never bring my wallet out in front of him.

I would have told him to go away, he probably used the $ for heroin. Beggars and bums deserve no sympathy.

i once gave a homeless guy in a wheel chair with no legs $20 (all the atm had). even chased down the guy because he had left that corner. he looked at me and didn't say a thing. seemed pissed even. i never knew why.

i work with the church and homeless with mental health in volunteer work.

they get paid a few times a month: social security, disablity, welfare, some qualify for mental health pay checks as well (medications and such).

they get a shower and breakfast at the church in the morning. lunch threw food not bombs. dinner through some christian groups with pretty good box dinners. and they get fresh clothing from donations (people don't donate dirty clothes) and free showers at local public swimming pools (yes those swimming pools)

the rest of the time they just sit asking for money. some change every now & then doesn't sound like alot, but if someone drops $1, $5 or even a $20, that adds up.

plus the money from the state, government and city orgs: its supposed to be enough to live on (ie food, clothing, RENT!) There's alot of free cash coming in if your not paying rent.

Good deed nonetheless. If someone asks for something sometimes thats hard enough. Just don't go too much into it.

i always give to the ones with no legs or arms since it would be almost impossible for them to attempt to get a job.

or if they have dogs or kids
