Hrmm, answer me this, if you would be so kind, sirs. If I were to rebuild the engine I have now with new pistons, connecting rods, cams/shafts, head gaskets, etc. In theory, would that solve my motor issues? My cousin is giving me his 95 civic, so I may have some time to work on the 240.

Dude, you need to find out what's wrong first! It could just be a bad plug and/or plug wires. It could be a dirty/clogged air filter, it could be a bad distributor/points/carburator or fuel injectors, it could even be a damaged/dirty fuel filter or fuel line. Come on, throwing random parts is probably NOT going to fix the car.

You need a little cash to have the car looked at.

and if you are changing CAMS, what makes you think you'll pass smog now?

As with some of the others here, I'm not worried about smog

Anyhoo, like I was saying a bit up top, I wanted to go KA-T with this (eventually) so a slow buildup of the internals had to happen, anyway. As it is, I (and my ever undecisive mind) was thinking about selling the Civic my cousin is giving me, and the 240 shell and buying a 2.5RS

Why is a compression test out of the question? I'm sure you can get a gauge for it from someone on the boards, and your engine is a lot easier than the EJ20 to do it because it's an Inline. All your spark plug holes are on the top so it's a DIY project that won't take too long. While you're doing that too, you can check your sparks to see what kind of condition they're in. I really don't see how that is out of the question.

Hrmm, DIY, huh? I'm pretty mechanically challenged, but if I can see it I can do it. Any links to visuals? I can't do things by word. Damn my being extroverted!
