If you have the time, you could make a mini vacation out of it as some previously have said.

If you're just going to head down, pick up, and head back, then you have to ask yourself is 12 hours of your life worth $240 (about 20 an hour)?

Oh and one thing i thought of, I think gas is more expensive in SoCal too.

Gas is cheaper in SoCal (just not anywhere near LA)

Headed down to So-Cal on Friday to return on Sunday for car related stuff - if you need anything lugged up that fits, let me know.

I've been in the same situation, and here was my reasoning in no particular order:

1. Cost of gas

2. Wear and tear on your car.

3. The drive to LA sucks really badly... No fun what so ever, unless you take highway 1, and even then it still sucks

4. Your safety. People don't think about this to often but every time you get in the car you're risking your life... Driving to LA is particularly dangerous because a lot of people fall asleep or get tired and swerve into other lanes, etc. Is your life worth that little?

5. 12+ hours of your time down the drain... That's the minimum too! AT LEAST 12 hours of your time gone. I value my time and try not to waste it... Driving to LA to save a few bucks on shipping is NOT worth my time. You're going to have to fill up twice to get there and back (well, for me at least) and that will cost you around $200 right there.

There are more reasons I could go on about but those 5 are the main reasons you shouldn't drive down there to save a little bit of money. Since you're going to have to pay $200 for gas and car wear alone, so you're saving like $100... Is $100 worth the long *** drive? No, not unless you're the cheapest person on earth.

This would be the only way I'd drive down. If you're going solo, it's actually (or was) cheaper to fly than to drive. A few months ago it cost $130 round trip to LA from San Jose and back). I think it was some promotion with SouthWest or something, but still.

I would drive down. I love driving down to socal. Visit some places, hit the beach, take a vacation. Plus you have a 2.5i so gas mileage is not bad at all.

Do it!

Ok... Looks like there is an overwhelming desire for the road trip option. There are some good points made for both sides. As far as cost critiques and such, I am pretty damn good and doing road trips, one of the reasons why I like having a 2.5i so much, and I have driven all up and down this state and I have also driven to Las Vegas.

I guess I will spill the beans. I want to get a set of wheels and tires. The shop is in Simi Valley which just west of the grapevine. So really I wouldn't be driving through the heart of LA or anything. And now that I think of it, this sort of deal would be prime for a trip to grab some friends and go to Magic Mountain. No bags or overnight stuff. Just leave really early. Get to the shop as they open and then go ride some rides for the rest of the day and then head home. And of course a trip like this probably won't happen until maybe April or May if it ever happens at all.

Again, thank you for all the input. I cannot express how great it is to have a group like this that I can bounce my crazy ideas off of. Thank you guys.

For Nor Cal'ers, SoCal = L.A.

Simi Valley's not too bad, won't have to deal with too much traffic methinks.
