Hybrid Cars and the Carpool Lane

So why do they allow hybrids in the carpool with only one person? I'm all for saving the earth and that BS, but shouldn't we allow the huge V8s that are pumping tons of pollutants into the air to go in the carpool? The hybrid should sit in traffic like everybody else. Their car is good for the environment. Whats the harm if they sit in traffic and DONT pollute. Let that huge V8 hop into the carpool lane and let him get to where he needs to go, getting him off the road sooner.

Is this a reasonable notion?

Speak on it....

that is the incentive for people to by hybirds... btw, if you have one, doesn't mean you can drive in carpool lane automatically. you have to apply for it... And I think my friend said it's all gone...

Oh really. I wasn't aware that you had to apply for those cool sickers. Do you see my point of reasoning though? Shouldn't it be incentive enough knowing that you are saving the planet?

No the incentive is to get those V8's off the road. By offering you to drive in the carpool lane with only one person. It's not a big enough incentive for me to out weigh the relatively high cost of those cars and to insure it.

And I believe I heard the DMV was gonna allow 10,000 more hybrid applications.

What if I shave off my emblems, put a hybrid emblem on it and put this sticker on every corner of my car....

Will a cop see the sticker and let me by?

Just don't get caught in the carpool lane illegally. My co-worker got busted when she used the lane to pass a short section of slow traffic during the rush hour. Cycle CHP came alongside and peered into her car, then motioned her to pull over. The carpool signs say $271 for first offense (or did at the time) but she paid more than $350 after some additional surcharges were tacked on and they weren't previously unpaid tickets. I don't think her insurance went up, though.

So do you have one? If not, that means it's not enough incentive. I know it's not enough for me.

All the people I know that has a hybrid not because of saving the planet. Sad, but most of the people don't give a rats *** about it. they got it to save their own pocket and the carpool.

I rather keep up my recycling habbit (I actually recycle stuff in the recycle bin AND bring other items to recycle yard and kragen for oil and filters) and drive less than to buy one...
