The nicer (and more fun) part of HWY1 is north of Santa Cruz. There is also a 1/4 mile 4 lane stretch that on random Wed./Fri. nights people show up and race. Trucks, oldies, american muscle, rice, they have it all! Have not been to one of those in several years though.
