what's needed is a someone to get a ticket and get an injucntion against all LE agency to stop this PROFILING.

it is illegal.

what the LE agencies are hoping that they are busting 18-24 y/o males who normally would just pay and shut up...

maybe this is why we've heard less (although still some) about state wide "cracking down on modified street racers." Maybe they realized that saying "we are going to pull over everyone with a big wing or tinted windows because it means they are moddified, and if they are modded, they street race" was similar to saying "we're going to chase and arrest african americans because they are bad and rob stores" and well, thats just poor logic and idiocy.

The hot new ticket is the db ticket. That way you have to pay to get tested. Then pay for the paperwork and spend the time. It's bull.

I plan on getting tested just for the hell of it. That way if I pass I'll have the ticket in my glove box. Not that it will matter to the cop. But that way when I go to court I can tell the judge it's been tested and I informed the officer before the citation was given. Booyah!
Last time I had the energy to look it up, what I read said that anything after the cat is fair game so long as it complies to sound limits. Also, you cannot replace your cat unless your car has over 50k miles and the cat has failed.

I would be interested to see where it says you cannot modify your exhaust in any way.

Also, your comment about the quota is 100% correct, however - it's still a quota, whatever you call it.

very true... but the cop reasons that it is THEIR strong belief that the sound manifested by your "stock" exhaust is in violation with the state ordinance laws.

and them not being equipped with a db tester... they are given the "final judgement" regarding how loud your exhaust is, until you take it to the state ref.

omfg how i love the state's LE.

ps. to those LE officials that actually treat all drivers unbiased and pulls people over as a result of that driver's sheer stupidity rather than profiling them because of their tint or mufflers... i praise you and commend to you a job well done. to all the other dicks... get a life.

yeah, I love how it says they arent required to carry a dB meter and are therefore allowed to judge it by ear.

As for the 50k cat thing. I read that a few months back, and in about 4k miles my cats are going to be fair game....I plan on shootin a hampster through them, putting the stock pipes back on, get tested and see if I can get some hi-flow cats.

That would actually require hi-flow cats that filtered as good as, or better than the stock parts I'm assuming...anyone know the actual law?

Giving cops the equipment wouldn't help, because its a very specific SAE test, and the placement of the sensor is critical, shoving it up the tailpipe (which is more than likely what would happen) does not conform to these standards.

believe me......I'll do it.

I'm so sick of this crap. I got 16 tickets in less than 6 months with my last car because they got me on a trumped up speeding charge....said I was street racing and going 100+ in a 35 and got me on rediculous amounts of smog violations. Photos. the whole bit. The ticket never went through. Needless to say I got sick of getting pulled over EVERYTIME I was out after midnight in the newark/fremont area so I sold it.

I WILL NOT let that happen again.

I'm going to get my car tested. If it doesn't pass I'll sell my exhaust. Get one that does. Get tested again. If I get popped I'll take it to the house.

and you're dead right. They are expecting people to not know their rights and to just pay up and shut up. We need to get some actual manufacturers to start fighting this ****. SEMA. Borla. Whatever. If they can't beat it then they need to start giving us C.A.R.B. cert parts.

if you want to blow your cats just pull them off and dump some water into them. rust them out and put em back on.

It's an old school hot rod trick. They'll blow quick.

I'd really like to see more replacement exhaust parts with hi-flow cats in them so we can stay cat'd. That way at least visually I'm legal.

That's waaaay too logical.

Cop: how do I know you haven't tampered with that little gadget to show me what I want to see?

We should have a Suby meet at a testing facility. I still have my ScoobySport so it's just a matter of time for me. I'm gonna cry, because I don't wanna get rid of it. As soon as I get a midpipe, I am going to put a resonator on it to quiet it down, but it prolly still won't help. Still, I didn't set of the SPL meter at Laguna...

Doesnt the stock exhaust have a big SPT on the side of the muffler?

I hope that you get off from the ticket and that the cop gets stuck with bus driver duty. I hate cops that abuse there power because they are pissed off at the world and have to prove something.

It doesnt have a SPT but it does an STI there. It also has a Subaru stamped in the buttom of the muffler. I didnt know about that subaru stamped on the bottom till recently.

picture it this way. If you were an officer and you pull someone over. You find out he did nothing wrong and it's your mistake. You are not going to tell the guy you pull over "Oh i am sorry it's my bad that I pulled you over, off you go" It will make you look bad.

So the thing is once a cop pull you over they have to cite you for something.
