They used to have to use a sound gauge, I guess they won't have to anymore, huh!

That just about illegalizes any full-system exhausts, that sucks, I used to have a Muzzy 4-1 Full Stainless system, with the little SS can, on my ole '99 Kawi ZX-9R, that thing saved my life!

The "Official" CHP statement is that they "do not have quotas" but they "do have guidelines".

I remember seeing a nice CHP spokesman on the news one time saying exactly that.

Of course it amounts to the same thing except for the employment ramifications.

Always watch out the last week of the month. Especially the last wed/thurs of the last week on major highways.

Yeah, they say they don't have quotas, but they do, they're just "unofficial, informal" quotas.

I think I know more lawyers who are trust worthy than cops.

300 cites a month is what a Chipper is expected to write. If he doesn't cut it, he is gonna get counseled.

I just think this is so messed up, I don't see them pulling over Camero, Mustang, or Firebirds over for loud Borla or any other aftermarket exhaust! Just because I drive a Japanese car they will automatically think that I have some illegal mods that will destroy the environment? I'm pretty sure our Subarus are much more enironmentally friendly than the V8s.
Two notes before this turns into yet another a "Us Poor Persecuted Import Drivers" thread :

1. Trust me, they are more than willing to bust loud domestic cars as well.

2. You might be shocked just how clean the stock LT1 and LS1 run . Back when I had stock cats on it, the LT1 in my Impala put out 2 PPM HC at both idle and 2500 test.

Yes, I said TWO.

Several of the cars in my Impala club have had the smog guy SWEAR the equipment was broken (and threaten to fail the car) because the car was running TOO clean on it. A quick test of the sniffer on whatever car was lying around at the service station (i.e. Honda, Subaru, etc ) and seeing the machine did work usually solved that question .

Something is going on lately with CHP around the San Mateo area. I got my state ref ticket 2 weeks ago on 92, and so did 4 of my friends. All in the last 3 weeks...

The Mfgr. isn't getting the CARB EO# for noise purposes, but for emissions purposes.
I didnt think that there were CARB stickers for cat back exhausts. There is no illegal exhaust as far as emissins go becuase exhaust it not an emissions controlling device. The only illegal exhaust is one that is too loud.

The newer big V8s are much cleaner. But most of the cars that are smokin are the older, 80s or earlier, V8s. I think that's mostly the owners not taking care of their cars.

A funny follow up...I was driving back yesterday after work, going 280 N and merging onto 92 E, the same type of HP cruiser that pulled me over was 2 cars behind me. Then he came out to the next lane over and came right next to me. I looked at him and he looked back...I think it was the same CHP who pulled me over the same morning!!! He sped away before I could look more closely. Though, all the CHP officers look the same to me, even the female ones, all blond, clean cut, young. I should have waved and told him I STILL have the stock exhaust.
