How are used FMIC's so expensive?!? [rant]

I am so pissed that intercoolers are as expensive as they are!!!!!

1. So a good FMIC system for a WRX is a thousand bucks (See link below). Not much different than a radiator, but way more expensive for whatever reason - fine.
http://search.ebay.com/search/search...WRX&category0=

2. An FMIC has its obvious functional advantages and disadvantages, but perhaps the most important is: Now it is a consumable object. Over time the MFing thing will be distroyed from rocks and bugs and whatnot and it will have to be replaced. Depending of course on the variables of its service duty.

With that being said, how in the *(#**)#&( are people asking so much for a used one? They seem to have a better resale value than Snap-On Tools!! How in the ^&$% is a turbo cheaper than an intercooler!?!?!

$500 is all I will pay for a used Turbo XS FMIC and people act like im crazy

500 bucks is more than half of what a brand new one costs period. Who's with me?!

Intercoolers don't get too damaged over time, I've had the same core on my car for 3 years now and it still is in awesome shape. Also intercoolers cost more than radiators because they include piping, silicon couplers, and hose clamps. That stuff adds up and takes more time to fabricate. That's why the re-sale value is so high, they just don't wear down as much as say a turbo that has parts that move extremely fast and can develop play in the shaft, etc.. over shorter periods of time.

That depends where and how fast you drive among other things

Some of that may be true, but turbo's have MANY expensive individual components, and intercoolers only really have one - the core

This is somewhat refreshing, I wonder what Turbo XS charges?

radiators are a need, intercoolers are a want.
also when a radiator is made, they make 1000's and when a FMIC is made they probly make only 100's
(meh, i got a B in Economics)
you could always make your own

bay area roads with a GT35R on race gas, so i'd say pretty fast. and what's funny is my front end has TONS of paint chips while my intercooler still is in awesome condition. they hold up over time.

Yes, so over time the Turbo is more likely to wear down and get damaged where as the intercooler will stay in good shape and the piping will never wear out, thus the selling price is closer to retail. That's like saying I wonder why tires don't resell for close to retail when used compared to an intercooler. it just comes down to the condition of the part and the intercooler is likely to be in great shape.

dude, just get an SSAC FMIC for 279, its super cheap and virtually IDENTICAL to the turbo xs one, except the piping is stainless not aluminum. But in every other aspect it is the EXACT same one!!

I bought one of their TMICs and it came totally bent, so they sent me another one, and the fitment was ***, it rubbed a hole in my AC lines and had all kinds of other problems. The two TMICs they sent me were completely different BTW.

Intercoolers are in service on all kinds of production vehicals. Nearly every turbocharged one, they should be as mass produced as much as turbos if not more.

ive never see a 3 foot wide FMIC on a production car.

and im guessing that welding all the channels to the end caps isnt as easy as putting together a turbo.

id get an RS if i were you.
