i have 2 vista machines at home. one running vista 32 as a DVR 24/7 and it runs like a charm.

i recently got a vista 64 machine on an AMD 64 chip and that's my general usage machine. i installed sony vegas editing software, with their new 64 bit support. it runs just like all my other xp pro machines.

i dont know about running it on INTEL machines though...

Vista has gotten a lot better... I used to hate it. I still prefer XP, but Vista is pretty good compared to how it was.

Windows 7 is coming soon and rocks. I am very anti-microsoft operating systems but damn I was impressed with Windows 7.

+1 for KM Player

I personally use 'Combined Community Codec Package' aka CCCP

VLC works fine on my Vista. It's better than Windows Media Player where I get video and no sound for some files.

we ran a beta of windows 7 at work. First thing we all said was this was the same interface as vista.

I'd say there is a bigger diff going from going from so to vista than than there is from vista to windows 7. But then again I held out so long for windows 2000 and was literally forced to get into xp.

I'd say what microsoft's mistake was not giving users an xp-like interface in vista for a smooth transition.

no windows 7 has many many extra features that are amazing. not to turn this thread into a windows 7 thread but the start menu bar for one is amazing. and the low amount of resources it uses. while running photoshop, ftp client, pidgin, firefox, windows media player 12, email client, and excel i was using like 980mb of ram. it's always been like 1.1gb in xp for that like right now.

and "explorer" the file browser not the internet browser, is way nice too. easy to navigate and really fast.
