How much $$$ for a clutch job?
Hey guys,
I was wondering how much should I be expecting to pay for a clutch job if I were to replace my stock clutch anytime in the future?
Also, does anyone know how much the stock parts would cost, compared to lets say an aftermarket clutch (such as the ACT Street HD kit)? Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Oleg

Dude, you have a little homework to do:
Parts - call Gruppe-s, you can get a quote on both parts and install.
Labor - Expert labor is available at LIC in Novato or Gruppe-s in Hayward. If price is your biggest concern about labor, then I believe that MPJ has the best value in wrenching.
You should look around the board a little and hit the vendors in the vendor forums.
I can personally recommend all of the above, Gruppe-s, LIC and MPJ for parts and/or service and Gruppe-s for tuning too.
There is also a reviews area for seeing what other people say about the vendors.

Good Luck.

I know all about those shops and their reputations, and have been to all of them. I was just wondering what I should expect to pay for a clutch job on an AWD car (since my last car was FWD and was way expensive to change the clutch because you had to pull the engine).
Do you guys recommend aftermarket clutches, or should I get another stock clutch? I'm guessing the aftermarket clutch will hold upto launches a lot better, but will it tear up the tranny?

mpj probably would be your best bet for install they do a great job at a good price..... In my opinion get the clutch where ever u have it installed as u may be able to get a cheaper deal kinda like a package deal.
Get an excedy Clutch as the ACT Clutch can be a bit aggressive, harsh on the tranny and rough daily driven. Also dont forget your flywheel you may need to get it resurfaced...

As an interesting side note, you'll often save like $20 on labor if you have an aftermarket flywheel. The stock one has to come off and be resurfaced, so replacing it with an aftermarket one is actually less work.
If you're ever going to do a light flywheel, and you should because it's a very nice change, do it when you change your clutch!!! As mentioned, it wont cost you a cent more for labor, but if you do just a flywheel later you're still going to be looking at $350+.
ACT StreetLight flywheel is a great flywheel at a really, really great price. Definitely highly recommended. It's also in the appropriate ~ 14 lb range...
