At How Many RPM's Do You Shift Gears?

Ok ok ok.

My co-workers and I were having a discussion. One of them drives a Subie Wagon while I drive the regular WRX. She was telling me it was real bad to take my first gear into 4000 RPM's then shifting. She says she usually shifts into 2nd at 2000.

So let me ask..At how many RPM's do you guys shift into 2nd and 3rd???

And does going up to 4000 in 1st hurt the Subie any?

People have got me scared.

Oh, and If you dont redline it in first, you are not driving the car properly

Daily driving I shift ~4-5000 mostly.

Getting on the freeway or having fun, I shift at 6800-7000.

maybe she drives the 2.5ts wagon?

i shift around 3. Saves gas as it's so expensive nowadays.
I dont going up to 4th in first hurts anything...unless you dont step on the clutch or something. I mean, the redline IS at 7k.

I usually shift at 3000-3500rpm just normal driving, higher if I got a full tank of gas + feel like driving fast.

I was wondering about shifting and RPMs as well. The STi manual sez to shift at 15, 25, 40, 45, and 50 mph. Except for sixth gear, the shift speeds are at about 3000 rpm. I shift into fourth at 35 mph. I don't shift into sixth until 60, maybe 65 if I'm getting on the highway. Going in sixth at 50mph sucks because you're at too low an rpm, and you're not going to get acceleration.

3000-3500 normal day-today driving. 6500-7000 for fun.
