At How Many RPM's Do You Shift Gears?

ditto, and I have an STi, which has more midrange compared to the higher-revving WRX, so my shift light is set to 6750.

I usually short shift first, which means I upshift to second around 2,750-4,000. I'm more likely to stretch her legs in second or third. I've just read too many horror stories about people busting their second gear that when I do rev first up to near red line, I am very careful not to bang second too hard near the torque peak of the engine at 4K. Plus my dad taught me not to rev first gear out on a regular basis unless you really needed the power because revving the engine makes it hot, and you're not going fast enough in first to circulate enough cooling air around the radiator...of course, he was teaching me on a '66 Valiant with a "3 on the tree". My WRX may be a *wee* more advanced than the old Valiant. LOL
Shifting to second when first is only revving 2 grand in the WRX is going to lug the engine under most circumstances. Lugging is probably as hard on the engine as hitting the rev limiter, so I'd tell your friend that she should take first a little higher unless she is in stop and go traffic.

I dunno about anyone else but I rarely get advice from women about anything, especially cars!
They are so helter-skelter.
If I am trying to save gas: 2500-3500 RPM
Regular driving: 3000-6000 RPM
Need for speed: >7000 RPM
If you like her, take her for a ride and show her how "bad" you are.
