Question How long to wait after a PayPal payment

Pay Pal expert question.

How long do you wait to make sure Pay pal payment is secure? For something let say, over $300, do you wait longer or should it be fine after it shows up on your account?

Thanks for your input!

Usually 3 business days on my transactions. But it is never really secure because paypal can always take it back if the buyer or seller is unsatisfied.

It depends if you transfer money from a Creditcard or from your bank account-- if it's from your bank it should take ~2-3 days, but from your card it's instant

Thanks! I am about to mail the package, but realized that I better make sure the $ is good, but don't want the buyer to wait too long.

I usually give it 2-3 days. Paypal can still yank your money at any time, but if the buyer used a fraudulent money source it should be discovered in the first 2-3 days. It's happened to me twice already.

Thanks! I will wait 2 more days then. I don't need my wife nagging me because I didn't want the buyer to wait.

i'm assuming the buyer paid you with an echeck and the payment is currently uncleared? If so, go to your paypal account and read the details of your transaction. It should say something like "expected clearing date is <some date>". Wait for that date to pass AND make sure the funds show up in your paypal balance before you ship the item. If the date has passed and you still don't have the funds in your balance, you should contact the buyer and/or paypal customer service to see what's up (since the echeck might have "bounced", triggered some Paypal fraud check, etc.)

Thanks as well! I'll do that.
