The crazy thing is... I don't live out in the country anymore! I wouldn't have been surprised to see one when I lived out in the sticks, but now I live in town, on the beach! I actually never saw one when I lived out in the sticks.
I rent though, so torching it that close to the wall/base board was out of the question. I was always running late for work.
Oh, and if it isn't a goat or chicken flavored, my dog has no interest in it

But yes, it's a black widow. I believe not a fully mature one though.

If you run into a spider problem again, and don't want to burn it. Try using a keyboard cleaner turned upside down, not too much where you blow it away obviously, but enough where it spits out that freezing cold liquid. It literally freezes them, trust me I do it all the time.

there's a chemical we use called "wasp freeze" being in pest control. it's for instantly dropping wasps, bees, and works on black widows and some other spiders as well. what's cool about it, is that it's a petroleum distillate. and unlike other sprays, this thing shoots out 15 feet or so. put a lighter in front of it and it creates a GIAAAANT fireball. like 3-4x larger than any raid can or wd-40 can.
that's what i use to kill spiders lol

My wife found a big ol Black widow behind our bathroom door, kinda creepy. Their webs are crazy strong too. Now when grabbing a towel to dry off I give it a couple snaps just incase any critters are on it lol.

matter of fact, per their width they are stronger than steel. they used to use them as crosshairs too!

Great stuff, but you’ve got to question their safety procedures. I heard that some chemistry student got bit while touring this lab. He turned out okay though. Working as a photographer in nyc last I heard.
